Overview
We are actively recruiting a Controller to join as a key member of the executive leadership team for our client, reporting to the CEO. In this role, you will take ownership of the entire accounting and finance function across the platform that drives growth, supports processes, and ensures compliance. You will work closely with the CEO and other leaders in the business. You will also manage direct reports, who are generalists within each acquired business, and your team will expand as the business grows.

You Will Be Responsible for…
Duties and Responsibilities
Field Level Finance / Accounting / Onboarding
- Manage a team of accounting generalists, reviewing and overseeing their work, including monthly, quarterly, and annual consolidations and financial reporting of platform businesses.
- Communicate, engage, and interact with leadership teams at our platform businesses to track performance relative to company budgets.
- Manage cash by monitoring balances, receipts, and disbursements, and maintain rolling cash flow forecasts.
- Track key performance indicators at platform companies to optimize financial performance.
- Quantify the impact of new growth initiatives on financial performance and collaborate with teams to implement those initiatives.
- Lead and assist in month-end revenue and cost accruals based on percentage of completion accounting.
- Collaborate with project managers and sales teams to monitor project budgets, costs, and profitability.
- Ensure business compliance with GAAP methodology.
- Coach and develop a high-performing finance team that ensures business results and compliance.
Holding Company Finance
- Model historical and future financial performance for the consolidated holding company.
- Track cash flow on a weekly and monthly basis, advising on optimization of holding company cash outlays.
- Provide insight and recommendations for holding company capital allocation decisions.
- Inform and engage with investors and the board to keep them apprised of company performance and forecasts.
- Track covenant compliance, prepare lender reporting, and interact with lenders to communicate financial performance.
New Deal Diligence
- Analyze financial performance for new deal opportunities.
- Assess the quality of financial information and adjust to reach normalized earnings power.
- Build relationships with target company owners during the deal process.
- Identify and evaluate financial optimization opportunities to assess potential investment returns for new targets.

What You Have
- A Bachelor’s degree (Accounting or Finance preferred). An MBA or CPA is preferred.
- Public accounting experience.
- A track record of success developed over 7-10+ years in progressively responsible accounting and finance roles, including leadership positions, preferably with several years of experience as a Controller/VP of Finance.
- Project-based accounting experience.
- Experience in PE/Investor-backed, entrepreneurial environments that have scaled is strongly preferred.
- Proven success in multi-location businesses and experience coaching site-level accountants.
- Expertise in building and managing complex accounting and reporting systems with sound internal controls.
- M&A experience, including financial due diligence management, purchase accounting, and post-acquisition integration.
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to link business actions to financial outcomes.
- Expertise in strategic planning, budgeting, forecasting, modeling, and reporting.
- Experience creating and tracking KPIs, and setting, measuring, and enforcing financial and operational standards.
- Strong GAAP accounting knowledge and experience in consolidated financial statement preparation.
- Excellent communication skills, simplifying complex financial matters for executives, peers, and staff.
- Experience delivering financial results to non-accounting personnel at executive, board, and business levels.
- A collaborative, team-oriented approach, gaining trust and respect from peers, customers, and external partners.
- A self-starter mentality with the ability to manage multiple projects across internal and external teams.
- The highest ethical standards of conduct.
- Advanced knowledge of Excel, financial systems, Microsoft Office, Google products, and tools commonly used in accounting and finance teams. Knowledge of Sage Intacct is a plus.
