Job Summary
The Controller is responsible for overseeing all the functions of the Accounting
department to ensure the efficient and effective execution of the tasks and
management of the department employees. The Controller ensures the accurate,
timely, and harmonious flow of the financial transactions and money management
within the department and across department lines. This position reports to the
COO and works closely with the Business Operations Specialist. This position also
works with the CEO and other leadership team members to meet budget and
forecasting needs as well as the securing of new funds and ensuring adequate cash
is available for the company.
Essential Functions
·Provides accurate and timely distribution of internal financial reporting.
·Manages the accuracy and productivity of Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, cash disbursements, customer credits and collections, perpetual inventory integrity, fixed asset records, and cost accounting.
·Manages the collections process (with the CEO and VP advisement) as needed
·Safeguards assets and ensures accurate and timely recording of all transactions by implementing disciplines of internal audits, controls, and checks across all departments.
·Provides oversight of the expense and credit card reporting processes.
·Oversee the maintenance of the inventory of all fixed assets.
·Fosters a collaborative environment within the accounting department and across departments.
·Manages and nurtures subordinate staff by providing feedback in the form of coaching, encouragement, and formal reviews; establish and track career development path(s).
·Ensure financial plans are consistent with organizational goals; monitor operations to recommend solutions to business financial challenges.
·Participate in developing new business, specifically: assist the CEO and COOs in identifying new funding opportunities, the drafting of prospective programmatic budgets, and determining cost effectiveness of prospective service delivery.
·Ensure adequate controls are installed and that substantiating documentation is approved and available such that all purchases may pass independent and governmental audits.
·Development and oversight of customer terms and conditions and related policies.
·Provide the COOs with an operating budget. Work with the COOs to ensure programmatic success through cost analysis support, and compliance with all contractual and programmatic requirements. This includes: interpreting legislative and programmatic rules and regulations to ensure compliance with all federal, state, local, and contractual guidelines, ensuring that all government regulations and requirements are disseminated to appropriate personnel, and monitoring compliance.
·Oversee the management and coordination of all fiscal reporting activities for the organization including: organizational revenue/expense and balance sheet reports, reports to funding agencies, development and monitoring of organizational and contract/grant budgets.
·Oversee all purchasing and payroll activity for staff.
·Monitor banking activities of the organization.
·Ensure adequate cash flow to meet the organization’s needs.
·Work with HR to investigate cost-effective benefit plans and other fringe benefits which the organization may offer employees and potential employees with the goal of attracting and retaining qualified individuals.
·Oversee the production of monthly reports including reconciliations with funders and 401K plan requirements, as well as financial statements and cash flow projections for use by the Leadership team.
·Foster a collaborative environment within the Accounting department and across departments.
·Maintains professional and technical knowledge by participating in activities
such as: attending educational workshops, obtaining certification(s), participating in company organized events, reviewing professional publications, establishing networks, and participating in professional societies.

·Maintains a thorough understanding of financial controls and reporting in
compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and/or international reporting standards.
·Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resource modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.
·Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and government regulations.
·Must be able to calculate figures and amounts for all bookkeeping, payroll, budgets, statistical analysis, and probability statements.
·Ability to maintain a high level of professionalism, confidentiality, and objectivity.
·Effective teamwork and interpersonal skills.

Training, Education, & Experience
· Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business with an emphasis in
Accounting.
·3 years Accounting experience
·5 to 10 years’ experience as a Controller or Director (or equivalent role)
