The desired candidate will have at least 5 years of experience in accounting and/or audit, with the ability to excel in a fast-paced and self-motivated environment. The candidate will play an integral role in Silvertip’s growing team, collaborating and working directly with Silvertip’s senior management, and supported by an external accounting team.
Location: California (Los Angeles, Bakersfield, or Fresno)
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Leadership: Build and lead accounting and financial control systems to support our fast-growing farming and water resources management operations.
US GAAP Compliance: Ensure all financial practices and statements are in full compliance with US GAAP.
Internal Controls: Establish, maintain, and oversee appropriate internal financial controls.
Tax and Other Compliance: Manage external tax preparers to complete required tax filings. Complete state and other filings necessary for maintaining the good standing of Silvertip entities.
Payroll and Benefits: Oversee external payroll and benefits providers. Ensure accuracy and timeliness of payroll runs.
Inventory Tracking: Implement and manage sophisticated granular inventory tracking systems, ideally with water resources or other non-fungible commodities.
Team Management: Supervise and mentor an external bookkeeper who handles Accounts Receivable (AR) and Accounts Payable (AP), fostering a collaborative and efficient accounting team.
Strategic Planning: Collaborate with senior management to develop and execute financial strategies that align with the company’s goals.
Budget Planning: Develop and monitor budgets, perform budget comparisons to actual results, and provide variance analysis.
Audit and Reporting: Oversee internal and external audits, prepare and sign management representations letter as required by external auditor, prepare detailed financial reports, and present findings to stakeholders.
System Implementation: Oversee the selection and implementation of accounting software and tools to enhance financial reporting and efficiency.
Required Qualifications:
Education: Undergraduate degree.
Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting and/or audit with a preference for previous experience in a controller role.
Certification: Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
Location: Los Angeles, Bakersfield, or Fresno California. Role is hybrid, with a mix of in-office and work-from-home days, including some occasional travel.
Technical Skills: Deep understanding of US GAAP, experience with sophisticated granular inventory tracking, ideally with water resources or other non-fungible commodities.
Management Skills: Ability to supervise and develop an external bookkeeper responsible for AR and AP, strong leadership and team-building abilities.
Budgeting Skills: Proven experience in budget planning and monitoring, including comparisons to actual results and variance analysis.
Software Skills: Highly capable with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint as well as QuickBooks.
Professionalism and Integrity: High level of professionalism, integrity, and ethical standards.
Adaptability: Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment; self-starter with a proactive approach.
Industry Experience: Experience in the California water and/or agriculture is preferred; open to experience in other industries.
Acquisition/Divestiture Experience: Experience supporting asset acquisitions and sales, including financial integration.
Authorization: Permanent authorization to work in the United States.
