*While this role is remote it does require a few days of travel per month to either Louisville Kentucky, or Nashville Tennessee, or Philadelphia PA. (company will cover expenses for travel)

We are seeking a highly motivated, experienced, and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Controller. This is a crucial role within our finance department where you will be responsible for leading and managing all aspects of our financial management, including corporate accounting, regulatory and financial reporting, budget and forecasts preparation, as well as the development of internal control policies and procedures.
*While this role is remote it does require a few days of travel per month to either Louisville Kentucky, or Nashville Tennessee, or Philadelphia PA. (company will cover expenses for travel)
Responsibilities:
As a Controller, you will be expected to:
1. Oversee all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements.
2. Maintain internal control and safeguards for receipt of revenue, costs, and program budgets and actual expenditures.
3. Regularly produce financial reports and statements, and ensure timely and accurate month-end and year-end close processes.
4. Coordinate and lead the annual audit process, liaise with external auditors and the finance committee of the board of directors; assess any changes necessary.
5. Oversee and lead annual budgeting and planning process; administer and review all financial plans and budgets; monitor progress and changes and keep senior leadership team abreast of the organization’s financial status.
6. Implement a robust contracts management and financial management/reporting system; ensure that the contract billing and collection schedule is adhered to and that financial data and cash flow are steady and support operational requirements.
7. Update and implement all necessary business policies and accounting practices; improve the finance department’s overall policy and procedure manual.
8. Effectively communicate and present the critical financial matters to the board of directors.
Qualifications:
To be successful in this role, you need to have:
1. CPA required
2. Proven working experience as a Controller for at least 8 years, preferably in the finance industry.
3. Hands-on experience with NetSuite required
4. A thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures.
5. Experience with creating financial statements and general ledger functions.
6. Excellent accounting software user and administration skills.
7. Strong analytical skills, accuracy, and attention to detail.
8. Solid experience coordinating audit activities and managing reporting, budget development and analysis, accounts payable and receivable, general ledger, payroll, and accounting for investments.
9. Technology savvy with experience selecting and overseeing software installations and managing relationships with software vendors; advanced knowledge of accounting and reporting software.
10. A successful track record in setting priorities; keen analytic, organization and problem-solving skills which support and enable sound decision making.
11. Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with an ability to prioritize, negotiate, and work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
12. Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and unwavering commitment to the organization’s mission; a proactive, hands-on strategic thinker who will own, in partnership with the CFO, the responsibility for finance.
13. Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration. Masters preferred.
