We are currently seeking a dynamic, detail-oriented Controller to join our high-performing finance team. This is a permanent position that offers a unique opportunity to contribute to our fast-paced, innovative and collaborative environment. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of all aspects of accounting, with a specific focus on financial statement preparation, journal entries, month-end close, and general ledger accounting. Experience in property accounting, specifically residential property accounting, is highly desirable. Familiarity with HUD and Yardi software is a must.
Responsibilities:
1. Prepare, examine, and analyze financial statements and other financial reports to ensure accuracy, completeness, and conformance to reporting and procedural standards.
2. Prepare journal entries and account reconciliations while maintaining accurate and complete records.
3. Assist with month-end close procedures, including the preparation and posting of journal entries, account reconciliations, and variance analysis.
4. Manage and maintain the general ledger, ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of data input.
5. Perform property accountant duties, including but not limited to, preparing and reviewing financial statements, budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis for residential properties.
6. Ensure compliance with HUD regulations and guidelines.
7. Utilize Yardi software to efficiently manage and organize accounting data.
8. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive process improvements and ensure financial integrity.
9. Assist with internal and external audits, ensuring timely and accurate responses to requests for information.
Qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
2. Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in the finance industry.
3. In-depth knowledge of financial statement preparation, journal entries, month-end close, and general ledger accounting.
4. Experience as a Property Accountant, preferably in residential property accounting.
5. Proficiency in HUD regulations and guidelines.
6. Proficiency in Yardi software.
7. Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
8. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
9. Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
10. Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) designation is a plus.
