Position Overview:
The Controller is responsible for overseeing all financial activities within the organization, ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance with regulatory requirements, and efficient management of company funds. This position involves direct oversight of accounting processes, budgeting, financial analysis, and internal controls. The Controller will play a key role in guiding strategic decision-making and supporting senior management in achieving the company’s financial goals.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting: Oversee the preparation and timely delivery of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) or other relevant standards.
Budgeting & Forecasting: Lead the budgeting process, working with department heads to develop accurate financial forecasts and operating budgets. Monitor actual performance against budget and provide variance analysis.
Internal Controls: Develop, implement, and maintain robust internal control systems to safeguard company assets and ensure accuracy and reliability of financial reporting. Ensure compliance with all financial regulations and legal requirements.
Accounting Operations: Supervise daily accounting operations, including accounts payable/receivable, payroll, general ledger, and reconciliation processes. Manage the month-end and year-end close processes to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
Cash Flow Management: Monitor cash flow, manage working capital, and assist in optimizing liquidity for operational needs. Ensure timely payment of invoices and proper collection of receivables.
Audit & Compliance: Coordinate with external auditors during the annual audit process. Ensure that financial records are maintained in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
Financial Analysis: Provide detailed financial analysis to senior management, helping them understand key financial trends, cost drivers, and opportunities for cost reduction or operational improvement.
Tax Compliance: Oversee the preparation and filing of all tax-related filings, including sales tax, income tax, and other regulatory tax requirements. Work with external tax advisors to ensure timely and accurate filing.
Leadership & Team Management: Supervise, mentor, and develop the accounting team. Promote a culture of continuous improvement and ensure the team is aligned with the organization’s financial goals.
Strategic Planning: Assist senior leadership in strategic planning and decision-making by providing financial insights, projections, and recommendations.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or CMA (Certified Management Accountant) preferred.
Experience: 5+ years of experience in accounting or finance, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or management role. Experience with financial reporting, budgeting, and internal controls is essential.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite, SAP) and advanced Excel skills. Familiarity with ERP systems and financial modeling is a plus.
Knowledge: Strong understanding of GAAP, financial regulations, tax laws, and auditing procedures.
Communication: Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
Leadership: Proven ability to lead and manage a team, with experience in mentoring and developing staff.
