Our client, a prestigious nonprofit organization committed to empowering communities, is seeking a Controller to lead their finance department. This hybrid role offers the flexibility of remote work with the expectation of at least two office days per week.

Role Overview:
The Controller will play a pivotal role in driving the financial operations of the organization. You will provide visionary leadership to the finance team, ensuring timely and accurate completion of accounting functions, while maintaining compliance with state and federal regulations. The ideal candidate will excel in a dynamic environment, demonstrating exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supervisory: Lead the A/R and A/P Teams, oversee the Finance Department, and foster a culture of professional development. Conduct employee reviews, develop job descriptions, and participate in hiring.
- Reporting: Review and ensure the accuracy of financial reports, optimize grant cost reimbursements, and work with the VP/CFO to develop KPIs. Manage cash flow forecasts, budget preparation, and budget-to-actuals monitoring.
- Controls and Compliance: Develop and maintain financial policies and internal controls in accordance with GAAP. Ensure compliance with tax agencies and safeguard organizational assets.
- Finance Functions: Oversee invoicing, revenue recognition, and compliance with governmental grants. Manage balance sheet reconciliations and monitor expenditures.
- Key Relations: Build and maintain relationships with funders, vendors, and clients. Prepare detailed reports for the Finance Committee and Board of Directors.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in a related field, or equivalent experience in finance and accounting within the nonprofit sector.
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years in complex nonprofit accounting, including 2 years in a Single Audit environment. Proven experience in supervising finance staff and managing A/R, A/P, and payroll functions.
- Skills: Strong knowledge of GAAP, nonprofit revenue recognition, and banking procedures. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, advanced Excel, and accounting software like QuickBooks or NetSuite. Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Communication: Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to manage deadlines and work under pressure.
