Role with the Company:
The Controller is the senior financial leader of the company and will contribute to the overall success of the organization by effectively managing all financial tasks. They will oversee the financial operations of the business and provide frequent financial reports. They will also assure strict adherence to financial regulations and compliance. This is a hands-on role within a small team that requires ownership of all accounting in the company. Reports to the CEO.
Responsibilities:
- Manage and report a 13-week cash flow projection to leadership once a week.
- Manage the accounting function to produce accurate monthly financial statements by the 10th of each following month.
- Oversee and manage the accounting team - billing and collection specialist.
- Report on and manage the company’s A/R and collections efforts, and ensure customer billing goes out timely.
- Process payments to our vendors and audit vendor invoices for accuracy.
- Create and monitor company wide budgets for a fiscal year.
- Create and develop key financial models, including customer profitability analysis.
- Create company policies for great financial health.
- Manage the company’s insurance policies.
- Process bi-weekly payroll, along with any company benefits (PTO tracking, IRA payments, health insurance, etc.).
- Effectively maintain all financial records, including improving supporting working papers for the financial statements.
- Comply with all audits and company policies.
- Adhere to all laws and regulations.
- Set up best practices and processes to ensure proper controls are in place
- Build out KPIs and reporting
- Plan for cash spends on different projects
- Create presentations for key executives
- Conduct an audit of our invoices to ensure all coding is tied to the right line items on the financial statements.
- Convert accounting from cash basis to accrual basis within our accounting system.
- Discontinue sales tax filings in any state we are filing with but do not meet the reporting nexus.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field; CPA or CMA preferred
- 5+ years’ hands-on experience in accounting and finance with strong understanding of GAAP accounting
- Experience leading and establishing best practices and processes for the accounting function
- Experience in financial forecasting, including cash flow management/forecasting and financial statement forecasting
- Hands-on experience managing full cycle month end close process in GL, AR, AP, and Payroll
- Ability to find key metrics from complex data and build out KPIs and reporting
- Experience with Sage 50 a plus
- Strong daily user of Excel (pivot tables, vlookups)
- Results-oriented, decisive thinking, and leadership abilities
- Detail and results oriented with analytical and problem-solving mindset
