Job Description:
One of cour clients is seeking a Controls Engineer to join their team in Orlando, FL. This role involves overseeing electrical and controls engineering for large-scale projects, from initial concept through to system commissioning. Responsibilities include designing control systems (hardware, software, and network), developing electrical panels, performing power calculations, conducting risk assessments, selecting and configuring components, programming control systems, and managing the installation and commissioning phases.
Responsibilities:
- Design control systems from the ground up, including electrical and control components, based on project specifications.
- Utilize drafting software (preferably AutoCAD) for control system design.
- Collaborate with other disciplines to integrate control systems effectively within the overall project.
- Optimize panel placement and hardware layout for efficient system performance.
- Manage vendor scope to ensure safety, functionality, and contract compliance.
- Ensure designs meet all relevant codes and standards, including local, government, and client-specific requirements.
- Conduct risk assessments and implement mitigation strategies for technical risks.
- Design and analyze safety-critical components within control systems, including redundant safety measures.
- Develop systems with complex motion control and integration for automated systems.
- Create comprehensive documentation, including descriptions of operations, detailed design descriptions, panel assembly drawings, schematics, and test plans.
- Perform system design calculations and analyses, such as short circuit protection, power consumption, load flow, noise reduction, protective relay design, and safety system implementation.
- Preferred experience in designing ride systems for guest attractions.
- Willingness to work off-hours during installation and commissioning phases as needed.
Qualifications:
- Must be organized, technically skilled, and possess strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work in a multidisciplinary environment and collaborate with engineers, designers, and drafters.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering. Other engineering disciplines may be considered if work experience is directly relevant to electrical engineering.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience covering the listed responsibilities. Preferred experience in ASTM standards, the attractions industry, and safety engineering.
