Description:
- The Controls Engineer specializing in PLC Programming and Integration is responsible for designing, developing, and implementing programmable logic controller (PLC) systems for automated machinery and industrial processes.
- This role involves programming PLCs, integrating them with other systems, and troubleshooting to ensure optimal performance and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
- PLC Programming and Development
- Design, develop, and program PLC systems using various programming languages such as ladder logic, function block diagrams, and structured text.
- Configure PLC hardware and software to meet the specific requirements of industrial automation projects.
- Develop human-machine interface (HMI) applications to provide operators with intuitive control and monitoring capabilities.
System Integration:
- Integrate PLCs with other automation systems, including SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition), DCS (Distributed Control Systems), and other field devices.
- Ensure seamless communication between PLCs and other control systems using industrial communication protocols such as Modbus, Profibus, Ethernet/IP, and OPC.
- Collaborate with electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, and other stakeholders to design and implement control systems that meet operational needs.
Troubleshooting and Maintenance:
- Diagnose and resolve issues related to PLC programming, hardware, and system integration.
- Perform routine maintenance, upgrades, and modifications to PLC systems to ensure continued performance and reliability.
- Provide technical support and training to maintenance personnel and operators on PLC systems.
Project Management:
- Lead or participate in the planning, execution, and commissioning of automation projects, ensuring they are completed on time and within budget.
- Develop project documentation, including functional specifications, wiring diagrams, and operation manuals.
- Work closely with vendors and suppliers to procure PLC hardware and software components.
Compliance and Safety:
- Ensure all PLC programming and integration work complies with industry standards, safety regulations, and company policies.
- Conduct risk assessments and implement safety features within control systems to prevent accidents and equipment damage.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in PLC technology and industry trends to continuously improve system designs.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with safety PLCs and functional safety standards (e.g., SIL, ISO 13849).
- Experience with robotic systems, motion control, or CNC machine integration.
- Knowledge of industrial networking and communication protocols.
- Experience with project management and commissioning of automation projects.
