The Controls Engineering Manager at SDC will oversee the Electrical Controls Engineering department and will be responsible for the department's performance including the efficiency, timeliness, and quality of the staff's work. The manager will continue to develop SDC standards for the design of hardware and software solutions with a key emphasis on standardization and the efficient use of previously developed solutions. This role involves planning, scheduling, and developing staff capabilities while ensuring all engineering outputs align with technical, budgetary, and customer specifications.
Key Responsibilities:
Staff Management:
- Oversee and develop departmental staff to maximize their skills and effectiveness.
- Plan and schedule resources to ensure availability for projects.
- Conduct interviews, select, and onboard new employees.
- Provide coaching, motivation, training, and performance reviews to foster professional growth.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Build consensus and maintain camaraderie within the electrical engineering team.
- Represent the team and participate in SDC management meetings.
- Collaborate with project management for work assignments, schedule coordination, and progress tracking.
Standards and Processes Development:
- Establish, implement, and maintain technical standards for controls engineering outputs, including:
- Standardization of components, drawings panel layout and schematics, PLC, HMI, and robot software.
- Develop and maintain a technical library for reference and use on projects.
- Analyze and enhance department processes for accuracy, quality, and efficiency.
Engineering Design Accountability:
- Ensure detailed controls design meets technical company standards, project budgets, and customer specifications.
- Assist in the concepting and quoting phases of new projects, as needed, to align with departmental capabilities and standards.
- Assist with other management related duties as needed.
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering with automation experience required.
- 5+ years of management experience managing senior level, highly skilled staff in electrical engineering required.
- Experience developing and using department standards.
- 10+ years' experience in programming PLC's, HMI's, servo motors, industrial robots, and industrial machine vision systems.
- Experience with designing machine control architecture and power.
- Experience or knowledgeable in engineering software: AutoCAD, SolidWorks, LabView, MatLab, robotic control software, PC programming, databases, etc.
- Strong decision making and communication skills.
- Ability to coordinate with a project team and collaborate with other departments.
- Ability and willingness to travel to support projects, up to 10%.
