Job Title: Cook
The candidate prepares and serves food including therapeutic diets according to the community menu. Prepares food in accordance with current applicable federal, state, and local standards, guidelines and regulations, in line with our established policies and procedures, and, as may be directed by the Director of Culinary Services to ensure that quality dining services are provided at all times. Above all, you will exhibit a passion for serving seniors while contributing to the positive environment our residents are proud to call home.
Responsibilities:
- Follows menu cycle, noting changes or substitutions made on proper form.
- Cleans and maintains a neat, safe working environment including the kitchen and food service areas.
- Complies with state sanitation codes.
- Maintains the quantity of food prepared and samples the food to ensure the quality of the food served to the residents.
- Ensures that resident food preferences are known and followed.
- Ensures staff, resident and guest meals are accounted for daily.
- Maintains meal service records as required.
- Reports problems, concerns, issues observed with food service and communicates them to the Director of Culinary Services.
- Observes changes in resident status, needs, or preferences and communicates with appropriate team members and documents changes.
- Avoids loss, breakage, and waste of supplies and equipment.
- Coordinates coverage of the kitchen and works with the Director of Culinary Services to develop a schedule that ensures adequate coverage.
- Knowledge of specialty diets.
- Performs other tasks/duties as assigned
- Maintains inventory control, places food order, verifies that items are received appropriately and restocks kitchen shelves appropriately.
- Adheres to procedures for fire, life safety, disaster, security, worker safety and other emergency procedures.
- Maintain resident confidentiality and adhere to HIPPA policies.
- Seek out and perform other duties as assigned or needed.
- Understands the mission of Homeplace is to ensure quality care and services are being delivered to ensure each day is the best day possible.
Qualifications:
- Must have compassion for and desire to work alongside our aging population!
- Six (6) months’ prior experience in a food service department preferred.
- Obtain Food Handlers Permit as required by State regulations.
- Must be able to pass a criminal background check and drug test.
