Job Summary:
Functions under the supervision of the Dietary Manager to ensure meals are prepared efficiently & nutritionally.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for efficient and proper preparation of assigned menu items and any special dietary needs to be served at stated time
- Plan own work and timing schedule
- Knowledgable basic principles of quanity food cooking and care of equipment
- Must be accurate in weighing, measuring of food, ingredients and portion control
- Help with the preparation and service of any food for special occasions
- Keep own work area and equipment clean
- Responsible for general cleanup of kitchen after each meal and routine cleaning schedule for equipment, walk-in, store room, etc
- Responsible for the safe handling, service and storage of food and any leftover items
- Responsible for discussion of menu with the Food Service Manager and follow workers for the following day as to menu changes, utilization of leftovers, recipes to be used and supplies needed.
- Cooperate with fellow workers, staff and Administration. Be resourceful in meeting emergencies
- Prepare meals according to menu and modified diet sheets
- Prepare any special beverages for the meal
- Supervise the overall operation of the meal.
- Dish salads and desserts appropriately
- Help with the dishing up and service of food for trays and dining room as required
- Assist on tray line and serving as required
- Set up steam table if required
- Check bulletin board for any menu changes, and record any menu changes on Substitution form
- Check temperatures of food and record on temperature chart
- Perform advanced preparation for the next day
- Verify the duties and tasks list to ensure all activities have been completed

- Adheres to dress code, appearance is neat and clean.
- Completes annual education requirements.
- Maintains regulatory requirements.
- Maintains resident confidentiality at all times.
- Reports to work on time and as scheduled, completes work within designated time.
- Wears identification while on duty, uses computerized punch time system correctly.
- Completes inservices and returns in a timely fashion.
- Attends annual review and department inservices, as scheduled.
- Attends all mandatory annual inservices and other trainings as assigned
- Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner.
- Actively participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities.
- Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.
- Communicates the mission, ethics and goals of the facility.
- Promotes a positive work environment and supportive of co-workers
Regulatory Requirements:
- High School graduate or equivalent.
- Ability to work with residents/family and physicians in a friendly and knowledgeable manner.
Language Skills:
- Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
- Additional languages preferred.
Skills:
- Basic computer knowledge.
