The PI Coordinator must also be able to design, manage, and implement a variety of projects and improvement activities across multiple academic and operational departments.
What you will do
- Performance Improvement and Patient Safety activities: * Works closely with the Trauma Program Manager, Executive Director and Trauma Medical Director to identify and develop programs to address opportunities for improvement, assess clinical care, provide ongoing resource/education for performance improvement, monitor and facilitate compliance with regulatory standards. * Coordinates and provides reporting of quality/performance/operational activities and issues in accordance with patient care standards/practices, risk management, infection control practices, patient safety practices and regulatory requirements. * Collaborates with the Trauma Program Manager, Executive Director and Trauma Medical Director to ensure successful verification by the American College of Surgeons and designation by Arkansas, Mississippi and Tennessee state trauma programs. * Assists in establishing review criteria and standards for measuring and monitoring level of care and services and ensuring compliance with joint commission and regulatory agencies' requirements. * Assesses the environment, personnel, internal operations, and processes to determine approaches and practices that will coordinate people, equipment and materials to achieve quality and efficient operations. * Provides support for special projects, audits, and studies; collects and compiles data, performs analysis and follows-up as requested or needed. * Prepares and maintains required reports, records and files. * Assists in establishing priorities and makes recommendations for improvement.
- Assists with data collection and analysis. * Conducts audits to review charts, observe/evaluate practices and care of patients, and communicate with staff. * Conducts specific studies of patient processes and compliance with policy/procedure when complication/unexpected trends appear. * Assesses outcomes as it relates to targeted populations. * Establishes priorities and makes recommendations for improvement activities to ensure compliance with standards of practice and joint commission/regulatory requirements. * Monitors improvement projects by collecting and analyzing clinical data. * Utilizes analytic skills to aggregate data to assist with the identification of potential problems and patterns, trends, establish priorities and recommend improvement actions. * Analyzes and interprets clinical data in conjunction with Trauma Registry Analysts, co-investigators, statisticians, and other members of the trauma team as appropriate.
- Assists in improving and sustaining clinical excellence. * Acquires and maintains a current knowledge of evidence-based practice for trauma patients. * Evaluates staff compliance regarding standards of care, patient safety goals, infection control, and QI/PI initiatives. * Identifies learning needs and makes recommendations to leaders and educators. * Evaluates changes in clinical practice based on outcomes. * Monitors compliance with action recommendations and approved plans/projects.
- Serves as a resource and liaison between departments and participates on quality, performance improvement and safety committees to promote compliance and consistency in the application of patient care standards plans. * Regularly attends Trauma M&M, Peer and Systems meetings. Co-Responsible for creating and distributing meeting agendas and minutes. * Collaborates with EMS Outreach and Injury Prevention Coordinator to develop, implement trauma-related feedback and education for referral hospitals, pre-hospital, and law enforcement providers. * Monitors effectiveness of the system of care for all trauma patients with a special emphasis on safe transitions for inter-and intra-facility transfers. * Compliance with policy/procedure when unexpected trends are identified. * Compliance with standards of practice and joint commission/regulatory requirements.
- Participates in trauma survey procedures and responsibilities by reviewing data and/or reports and making recommendations to ensure compliance with required standards and other regulatory requirements. Participates in daily rounding of nursing and patient care service areas as requested.
- Confers and works collaboratively with nursing/medical/hospital staff in compliance with iRESPECT standards and promoting patient/customer satisfaction to coordinate and implement activities, to obtain information, answer inquiries and resolve problems regarding quality and/or efficiency of patient care and services.
- Conducts staff in-services, training and orientation to enhance staff’s performance/professional competency and knowledge of nursing services’ policies, procedures, QI/PI initiatives and regulatory requirements.
- Maintains professional credentials and education necessary to keep abreast and maintain a current knowledge of clinical/theoretical/performance improvement principles, concepts and techniques, best practices and current trends. Attends continuing education, staff development, and mandatory programs.
Qualifications
- Associate's Degree From an approved nursing program. Required
- Bachelor's Degree In nursing or related healthcare field. Preferred
- RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure Upon Hire Required and
- TNCC - Trauma Nursing Core Course Preferred or
- ATCN - Advanced Trauma Care Nurse Preferred or
- TCRN Preferred
- Minimum 3 years experience Experience in healthcare and/or public health Required
