Position Summary:
We are currently hiring a Coordinator of Peer Support & Gateway Services. The Coordinator of Peer Support & Gateway Services will oversee and deliver certified support services to community youth who are recognized to benefit from a positive working relationship with someone that has lived experience. Further, this professional will oversee and deliver gateway services at Bellefaire JCB, which entails providing housing assistance in accordance with the Youth Homelessness Demonstration Program (YHDP), food, clothing, hygiene, and other basic need items to youth and families in crisis. The position will intermittently require the management of other staff and interns engaged in these activities.
Responsibilities Include:
- Oversee and contribute to peer support activities within the Department of Unsheltered, Missing, and Transitional Youth Services, as well as across the Division of Community Services.
- Oversee and contribute to gateway and housing service provision within the Department of Unsheltered, Missing, and Transitional Youth Services, as well as across the Division of Community Services.
- Participate in hiring, training, and supervising other Peer Support Specialists across the Division of Community Services as needed.
- Participate in a rotation to cover the 24/7 crisis hotline for Basic Center activities within the Department of Unsheltered, Missing, and Transitional Youth Services. Act as a support to callers in need and respond or coordinate a response as necessary.
- Participate in “Drop-In Centers” regularly as a representative of Bellefaire’s Unsheltered and Missing Youth Services—interfacing with youth and families in need of gateway and other services.
- Provide essential transportation services to youth in Bellefaire’s host homes and the broader community as needed.
- Support direct community outreach services for unsheltered and missing youth in accordance with Bellefaire’s Street Outreach Grant.
- Participate in hiring, supervision, and coordination of peer support staff as needed.
Qualifications:
- Minimum high school degree or GED required. Some College coursework or College degree preferred.
- Candidate must achieve Peer Support Specialist certification.
- Independent Judgment: Demonstrate ability to perform job responsibilities with a high degree of initiative and independent judgment.
- Cultural Competency: Demonstrate awareness, sensitivity and skills in working professionally with diverse individuals, groups and communities who represent various cultural and personal background and characteristics.
- Interpersonal Communication: Communicate clearly using verbal, nonverbal, and written skills in a professional context; demonstrates clear understanding and use of professional language
- Ability to deal with crisis situations which require prompt decision and action.
- Experience working with children, adolescents, and their families required.
- Previous experience with mental health and developmental disabilities preferred.
