About the Job
ROLE: Responsible for monitoring the academic eligibility of student-athletes, which includes NCAA-sponsored and non-sponsored sports (referred to as "sports" in this document). All activities of this position are to contribute to the fulfillment of the mission and vision of Concordia University Irvine.
STAFF RELATIONSHIPS:
- Reports to the Registrar
- Works closely with members of the Athletics department
- Interacts and functions cooperatively with other department and campus personnel as needed
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to accomplish each of the below duties satisfactorily:
- Maintain a working knowledge of university policies and degree requirements by reviewing updates to degree audits and curriculum
- Ensure student-athlete academic compliance with all applicable university policies and degree requirements
- Maintain a working knowledge of athletics bylaws and regulations
- Ensure student-athlete compliance with all applicable athletics bylaws and regulations regarding academic eligibility
- Monitor initial and continuing academic eligibility for all sports, including good academic standing, full-time status, and progress toward degree for pre season, during season and post-season athletically related activities
- Maintain and manage all student-athlete eligibility files and eligibility documentation
- Assist with updating and maintaining athlete academic eligibility information in athletic department software
- Assist with the preparation of Eligibility Reports, squad lists, and other institutional, conference, and sport forms and reports
- Coordinate with admissions personnel on initial transferability and eligibility for new student-athletes
- Stay up to date with the University's course transfer policies and procedures by working closely with articulation coordinators
- Perform evaluations on prospective student-athletes' academic records for initial and continuing eligibility
- Send ineligibility report notifications to the Athletics Director, Associate Athletic Director of Compliance, Faculty Athletics Representative (FAR), financial aid, coaches, and student-athletes providing information on how they can regain eligibility
- Educate all coaches and academic advisors on the processes and procedures of academic eligibility
- Educate student-athletes on academic eligibility rules and regulations through various means
- Partner with Academic Advising to ensure students' registration plans align with eligibility requirements
- Assist with department efforts and projects related to increasing student retention and graduation rates
- Participate in Athletic Compliance Committee meetings and others as assigned
- Assist with other department tasks as mutually agreed upon, including Commencement Ceremonies.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: A bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university is required. Experience in NCAA eligibility is preferred.
