About the Job
Global Science & Technology, Inc. (GST) is seeking a Coral Reef Watch Scientist. This position is in College Park, MD but has been approved for a hybrid work schedule.
The Coral Reef Watch Scientist will identify urgent research needs/scientific questions related to trends/patterns of coral reef bleaching and conduct independent scientific/statistical analyses that lead to multiple peer-reviewed publications on the topic of coral reef bleaching, the trends/patterns of reef bleaching through time, and prediction of bleaching via remotely sensed data.
Background: NOAA Coral Reef Watch (CRW) uses remotely sensed data to identify physical-environmental stressors that may impact marine ecosystems and resources CRW utilizes satellite-derived sea surface temperatures & thermal anomaly algorithms to identify when & where coral reef ecosystems are at risk for coral bleaching. Coral bleaching predictions are used by reef managers, scientists, & the public to understand, document, & respond to the increasing threat of marine heat waves.
