We anticipate additional openings throughout the year. This posting will be used to create a pool of available candidates to draw from as vacancies occur.

Position highlights
This position is full time, Monday through Friday, on first shift (36.25 hours per week) and will perform and supervise inmate laborers in the performance of various warehouse and delivery functions for the Agency, within the entire State of Connecticut. Examples of duties for these warehouse positions include, but are not limited to:
+ Ordering materials and supplies;
+ Accepting incoming orders;
+ Processing and packing orders;
+ Conducting inventories;
+ Delivering orders;
+ Supervising and training inmate workers.

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)
In a Department of Correction facility or district this class is accountable for supervising either the entire small to moderate function as a working supervisor or for running one or several phases of a large stores function as assigned.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
+ At a large institution performs one or several of such phases of stores function as requisitioning food, materials and supplies, receiving, inspecting and storing incoming goods, supplying clothing to Correction Officers and to about-to-be-released inmates, maintaining inventories and making reports thereon and securing against pilferage, vandalism, food spoilage, vermin and inmate disturbances;
+ At a smaller institution is responsible for entire stores function, participating in one or more phases of work;
+ Trains and supervises inmates assigned to stores function;
+ Maintains discipline and completes reports on inmates’ behavior, training, progress, etc.;
+ May physically restrain inmates, quell disturbances and otherwise assist custodial forces in emergencies;
+ May be required to operate a motor vehicle;
+ Performs related duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY
+ Considerable knowledge of principles and practices of handling and storing food, supplies and equipment;
+ Knowledge of stock keeping and recording methods and procedures;
+ Skills
+ interpersonal skills;
+ oral and written communication skills;
+ Ability to
+ audit stock accounts;
+ analyze requirements and requisition supplies for future use;
+ keep records and make reports;
+ instruct inmates;
+ work under stress and remain stable in pressure situations;
+ utilize computer software;
+ Supervisory ability.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE
Three (3) years of experience in stock or warehouse work or closely related work that could reasonably be expected to provide the knowledge, skills and abilities listed above.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
+ Experience working in a warehouse;
+ Experience with loss prevention standards;
+ Experience with Inventory Control;
+ Experience communicating both orally and in writing with diverse populations;
+ Experience with computer programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel and Teams;
+ Experience with customer service and resolving customer issues;
+ Experience driving a box truck with a GVWR under 26,000 lb.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
+ Incumbents in this class must have reached their 18th birthday.
+ Incumbents in this class may be required to successfully complete a formal training course in correctional work to develop the knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the class.
+ Incumbents in this class may be required to possess and retain a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's license.
+ Incumbents in this class may be required to travel.
CHARACTER REQUIREMENTS
In addition to the checking of references and of facts stated in the application, a thorough background investigation of each candidate may be made before persons are certified for appointment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
+ Incumbents in this class must have general good health, be free from any disease or injury which would impair health or usefulness and possess and retain sufficient physical strength, stamina, agility, endurance and visual and auditory acuity required to perform all the duties of the class.
+ A comprehensive medical examination, including a controlled substance screening, will be required of all applicants upon a conditional offer of employment.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Incumbents in this class may be exposed to danger of injury or assault by inmates.
