About the Job
This position performs supervisory, administrative, and law enforcement duties in support of department operations.
- Assists in establishing short- and long-range goals for the department.
- Assists in developing and implementing department policy and procedure.
- Initiates investigations regarding staff and offenders.
- Attends staff meetings, board meetings, professional conferences, public relations functions, and other job-related meetings.
- Collects, stores, and maintains the security of criminal history, medical, and administrative records for historical and statistical purposes.
- Interviews, hires, trains, assigns, supervises, evaluates, and disciplines personnel.
- Ensures that sworn officers receive the required hours of annual in-service training.
- Ensures that personnel adhere to State and department rules and regulations, as well as POST orders.
- Investigate rule violations by staff and offenders.
- Supervise Lieutenants, Training Sergeant, CERT Commander, and CERT Team to ensure the daily mission is performed.
- Approves leave time.
- Coordinates shakedowns throughout the facility to deter the introduction of contraband by staff and offenders.
- Performs daily inspections and informs Warden and Deputy Wardens of deficiencies and violations.
- Ensures all areas are inspection-ready and in compliance.
- Ensures that disciplinary reports and procedures are carried out in compliance with GDC regulations.
- Supervises and schedules the work of shift supervisors and correctional officers to ensure that there is adequate security coverage for all work shifts.
- Assists offender's family members with questions/concerns.
- Assists Warden and Deputy Wardens with organizing search parties in the event of an escape.
- Responsible for reviewing new applicant paperwork, conducting interviews, background checks, and all steps involved with hiring new officers.
- Review offender detail assignment/classification documentation ensuring offenders are matched with details appropriate to their sentence/criminal history.
- Responsible for performance evaluation, coaching, leading, and disciplining subordinate staff.
- Performs such administrative work as typing, filing, bookkeeping, answering calls, and reading reports.
- Performs other related duties as assigned in support of the Warden and Deputy Warden of Security.
- Performs other related job duties as assigned.
