Overview
We are seeking an experienced, detail-oriented, and analytical Cost Accountant to join our growing Finance Team in this newly created position! As Cost Accountant, you will collect, analyze, and report on cost accounting data. This includes preparing standard cost reports, monitoring inventory levels, cost comparisons, product costing analysis, tracking variances and making journal entries. You will also collaborate with other departments to ensure accurate budgeting and forecasting processes.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Set standard costs of manufactured goods & develop/analyze cost standards.
- Carry out cost-volume-profit (CVP) analysis.
- Curiously look at function to help drive efficiency
- Work collaboratively with various company teams to drive costs while maintaining or increasing quality.
- Work with manufacturing, SG&A teams to evaluate opportunities, create metrics and help drive performance.
- Maintain and refine fixed and variable costs and true contribution margins.
- Review 4 cost accounting methods to determine which is best method to evaluate costs for each major function.
- KPI’s – review current and set new ones after evaluation of functional area
- Track large customer specific margins.
- Identify raw material costing and where there are opportunities to drive cost.
- Work on high level budgeting.
- Advise executives and upper management on appropriate costing based on financial data.
- Manage the company’s balance sheet and accounting books.
- Support other finance team members with invoicing and capital expenditure.
- Examine costs of production to determine the most efficient methods of production.
- Ensure accurate classification of expenses under Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Establish costs of business processes such as administration, labor, shipping, etc.
- Research material costs to ensure the accuracy of the information in the company’s accounting system.
- Prepare audit reports and present the findings to management.
- Analyze manufacturing costs and prepare periodic reports comparing standard prices to actual production costs.
- Participate in physical inventory counts to ensure the accuracy of inventory records.
- Monitor the accumulation of all direct labor, overhead and other manufacturing-related expenses.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Finance or related field.
- 3+ years of experience in the accountancy field or an equivalent role.
- Proficiency in accounting software like Tally, Microsoft Dynamics, QuickBooks or Peachtree and well-acquainted with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Exceptional ability to think critically and make decisions based on data analysis.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills in discussing financial reports with company stakeholders.
- Passion for numbers and competence in assessing larger datasets.
- An aptitude for mathematics, statistics, and various cost analysis techniques.
- Unswerving critical, analytical, and interpretation capabilities.
- Willingness to work in a team or individually, as required.
Estimated annual salary range is between $120,000 - $130,000.
