Spirit Maine's manufacturing facility has been a leading solutions provider of high temperature materials and composites for more than 50 years, serving the Department of Defense and NASA. The focus in Maine is on multidirectional reinforced Carbon/Carbon (C/C) and Ceramic Matrix Composites (CMCs) that enable high-temperature components such as: thermal protection systems, re-entry vehicle nose tips as well as rocket motor throats and nozzles.
Our materials are being used on ground-breaking space initiatives such as the Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle and the heat shield for NASA's Mars 2020 mission, important missile programs, airfoils in commercial and military jet engines, and as lightweight armor for U.S. military ground vehicles.
Your role: Spirit Maine is seeking an energetic and detail-oriented Cost Accountant to join our Finance team! As the Cost Accountant, you will be responsible for all inventory and job cost gathering and reconciliation, as well as reporting to senior leadership on Job Cost success against budget. You will also act as the primary liaison with governmental contracting and auditing agencies.
Job Responsibilities:
- Plan, study and collect data to determine costs of business activity, such as raw material purchases, inventory, and labor
- Analyzes changes in product design raw materials, manufacturing methods, or services provided, to determine effects on costs and drivers of margin impacts
- Analyze actual manufacturing costs and prepares periodic report comparing month to month/quarter to quarter and year over year analysis for product lines
- Analyze projects costs, estimates and budgets
- Provide management with reports specifying and comparing factors, affective prices, and profitability of products or services
- Assist in accounting closing and preparation of financial statements each month
- Assist in audits including but not limited to DCMA, customer proposal pre and post awards and annual financial audit
- Assist in preparing billings for cost type contracts
- Maintain Fixed Assets schedules
- Review daily transactions, including part maintenance, kitting transactions, production receipts etc.
- Prepare OH, G&A, and FCCM rate
- Prepare provisional billing rates
- Prepare Incurred Cost Proposals
- Roll Labor rates for forward bidding rates
- Maintain MRP / Costing Integrity in ERP System and procedures
What we need from you:
- Bachelor’s degree (BS) in Finance/Accounting or related discipline
- 5+ years of experience in an accounting role
- FAR/DFAR knowledge, as it pertains to costing
- CAS understanding and procedures
- Understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Understanding of project and/or MRP accounting concepts
- General knowledge of accounting/financial/operational principles
- Interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact with various management levels
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and adapt to a changing, fast-paced environment
- Strong Excel, Word, and PowerPoint skills
- Superior attention to detail and ability to successfully manage multiple competing priorities while maintaining a view of the big picture
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and quality
