Job Summary
This is a full-time, grant-funded position reporting to the Project Director of M.O.S.T. The Counselor is responsible for providing academic, career and personal counseling to program participants. This is a temporary grant-funded position which ends September 30, 2026.
Job Duties
- Develops positive effective relationships with program participants through required meetings and counseling sessions.
- Facilitates program activities (e.g., orientation sessions and workshops).
- Assists in the recruitment and assessment of students.
- Implements program objectives and interventions.
- Maintains accurate, complete, and up-to-date student records.
- Compiles reports as requested by Project Director.
- May perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree (Master’s preferred) in Education, Counseling, or Social Work
- Experience in higher education and/or similar student support services.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; learning and motivation.
- Knowledge and understanding of a college academic environment.
- Skill in active listening by giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
- Exhibit emotional control and stability and stress management and coping ability.
- Ability to use good judgment and work effectively under pressure.
- Ability to record and maintain files accurately, in paper and software programs.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information.
- Ability to interact in an effective and appropriate manner with an ever-growing population.
- Ability to communicate efficiently.
