About the Job
Clark County (Indiana) Health Department is seeking a qualified individual to serve in the full-time position of Environmental Health Specialist (EHS).
The EHS is responsible for conducting inspections and performing investigations to ensure negative effects to human health from environmental factors are prevented or limited. Environmental health plays a key role in the public health system, and the EHS will work to safeguard the public's ability to enjoy a safe and healthy place to live, play, work, and learn. The EHS will work in an office setting and work in the field outdoors and in regulated facilities. To be effective in this position, an individual should be able to manage multiple projects at a time. Applicants must be able to effectively communicate with individuals orally and in writing. Applicants must be able to affectively research and communicate public health laws and regulations. Applicants should be able to deal with difficult individuals and challenging situations while remaining calm, professions, and task oriented. The EHS often works independently but must be able to collaborate and work in a team setting.

A Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university. Applicants must be able to meet the educational requirements to obtain a REHS/RS Credential from the National Environmental Health Association after two years. This job requires work in all weather conditions and physical activity includes bending, stooping, kneeling, crawling and hiking during inspections and investigations.
