Assistant Boys Basketball Coach
Tribal School
Department of Human Services
Contracted: $2,500.00/Temporary/Part-Time
The position is responsible for assisting the head coach with organizing the Basketball program at the Yakama Tribal School. Position assists with conducting practices, motivating students, and instructing students athletes in game strategies and techniques.
Examples of Work Performed:
Assists the Head Basketball Coach with instructing players in the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques.
Organizes and directs individual and small group practice activities/exercises as directed by the head basketball coach.
Assesses player's skills, monitors players during competition and practice, and keeps the head Basketball coach informed of the athletic performance of students.
Assists the head Basketball coach with supervising athletes during practices and competition.
Follows established procedures in the event of an athlete's injury.
Models' sports-like behavior and maintains appropriate conduct towards players, officials, and spectators.
Assists the head Basketball coach with submitting a list of award winners at the end of the season.
Participates in special activities to include parent's night, banquets, award nights, and pep assemblies.
Performs support tasks such as distributing and maintaining eligibility forms, emergency data cards, and other related records.
Model's nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of safety regulations, rules and policies for sport coaching.
Ability to demonstrate organizational skills along with time management.
Ability to demonstrate positive communication amongst all stakeholders.
Minimum Requirements:
Must have a First Aid/CPR card or the ability to obtain upon hire.
Must not have a history of child abuse or neglect.
Must have no history of drug or alcohol abuse.
Ability to complete background check according to Yakama Nation Tribal School and BIE requirements.
Required to pass a pre- employment drug test and alcohol test
Must possess a valid Washington State Driver' s License with the ability to obtain a Yakama Nation Driving Permit.
Required to pass the WIAA Coach's Rules Clinic.
Preferred Requirements:
Experience playing and/or coaching at the high school or collegiate level.
Mentoring High school kids and athletes.
