Make a difference as a Crisis Center Advocate
As a DV/SA Advocate at The Resource Connection of Amador & Calaveras Counties, Inc., you will play a vital role in providing essential support to domestic violence and sexual assault clients and their families. Your work will primarily focus on delivering crisis services at our San Andreas and Murphys locations, where you'll offer peer counseling, advocacy, and accompaniment. Your responsibilities will include responding to hotline calls, assisting clients with temporary restraining orders, and arranging emergency shelter. Additionally, you will collaborate with local schools to provide outreach and education, while also offering counseling for child victims of crime. In this position, you may engage in legal advocacy and accompany clients to court, ensuring they feel supported during their journey toward healing and justice. Basic computer proficiency is necessary for data input and maintaining case files. You'll also be involved in case management and advocating for clients within community agencies. A commitment to professionalism and a positive attitude, along with respect for personal boundaries, will ensure a supportive environment for clients in need.

Knowledge and skills required for the position are:
Client Services (70%)
- Provide crisis intervention services including but not limited to handling Hot Line calls
- assisting with Temporary Restraining Orders
- responding to the hospital and arranging emergency shelter
- Assists with intake paperwork for new clients
- Assists shelter clients and their families to accomplish short- and long-term goals including but not limited to assisting with financial aid applications, obtaining a driver's license, researching long term housing resources
- May provide legal advocacy and court accompaniment
- Advocates for clients and their families with community agencies
- Participates in Case management
- Facilitates client support groups
- May be responsible for oversight of families residing in the Crisis Center Shelter
Administration (20%)
- Responsible for gathering and documenting accurate statistical information regarding domestic violence and sexual assault clients for grant funding reports
- Maintains case files for clients and their families
Other Responsibilities (10%)
- Becomes knowledgeable regarding other community resource and referrals appropriate to clients
- May be asked to provide information and referral for walk-in clients
- Available for emergency response with law enforcement and/or medical calls
- Attends meetings, conferences, workshops and trainings as needed
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- At least one year of prior social service or crisis intervention experience preferred
Skills:
- Work with a variety of people from all racial cultural and socio-economic backgrounds
- Work with people in crisis situations
- Work in close coordination with other staff members government agencies and community organizations
- Be flexible and able to quickly adapt to change
- Communicate ideas effectively
- Handle multiple tasks and projects at one time
- Read and comprehend a variety of materials
- Represent CCC and CCC clients with professionalism
- Demonstrate and encourage a positive attitude
- Apply common sense and understanding to carry out instructions
- Possess basic knowledge regarding the use of computers; input data as required
- Facilitate groups
- possess basic public speaking skills
- Understand identify and respect personal boundaries
Required Physical Activities:
- Lift and carry objects of up to 30 pounds
- Remain in a seated position for a minimum of 8 hours and move about the office to perform duties
- Drive for up to 8 hours a day
- Climb stairs, walk, run, bend, reach, seize, hold and grasp etc
Required Travel:
- Frequently travels to client's homes which include all types of environments; and between agency locations in Calaveras County and out-of-area year-round under all weather conditions.
Special Requirements
- Must complete required 80 hours of Domestic Violence/Sexual Assault training within 6 months of hire date
- Valid California Driver's License
- Proof of current automobile insurance coverage
- Criminal background clearance
- Willingness to work irregular hours
- attend night meetings and travel as required by the organization
