About the Job
Assign, supervise and coordinate the activities of the Department of Anesthesia in accordance with national standards and administrative policies. Along with the Director of Anesthesia and Anesthesia Chairman, is responsible for the clinical operation of the Department of Anesthesia.
Qualifications:Education:
· Doctorate or Masters Degree required.
Licensure/Certification/Registry:
· Credentialed as Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist.
· Licensed as a Registered Nurse and Advanced Practice Nurse in the State of Illinois.
· Completed AANA approved course in Anesthesia.
· BLS, ACLS, PALS certification required.
Experience:
· Minimum of 1 - 2 years of experience working as a staff CRNA.
Other Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
· Demonstrates effective leadership skills and initiative.
· Current medical, legal and regulatory knowledge related to the area of anesthesia services.
· Strong communication skills.
· Demonstrates high levels of tact, diplomacy, empathy, emotional intelligence, active listening.
· Demonstrated ability to use Microsoft Office products, applicable software, and possess typing skills.
Responsibilities:- Administers anesthesia care under medical direction of an Anesthesiologist in a collaborative team approach for patients of all ages, neonate through geriatrics, utilizing assessment and diagnosis data obtained from chart review and patient interview. Fulfills job requirements of CRNA as listed in Job Description 995.
- Work schedule split between administrative duties and clinical duties as needed to meet the needs for anesthesia coverage and maintain clinical competence.
- Scheduling of CRNAs and Anesthesia Techs
- Completes monthly work schedule in a timely manner.
- Review and approve/decline PTO requests in a timely manner.
- Make changes to FTEs based on daily/weekly needs.
- Monitors and evaluates staff daily call schedule, work schedule, sick time, and overtime.
- Establishes and maintains staff schedule in Workforce Management System. Edits and approves for payroll.
- Holds people accountable to organizational and departmental policies
- Holds training to ensure all policies and rules are understood along with consequences.
- Informs staff of any new policies and regulations.
- Responsible for initiating the corrective action process.
- Schedule and coordinate all continuing education and employee training events.
- Mediate conflict
- Moderate staff to staff conflict.
- Hold staff accountable to the Performance Excellence Standards.
- Hold staff accountable to departmental rules and expectations surrounding conflict.
- Performance Appraisals
- Performs CRNAs Performance Appraisals
- Performs Anesthesia Techs Performance Appraisals.
- Encourages staff to pursue relevant educational and developmental goals.
- Stimulates team members to continuously improve performance by encouraging input into practice.
- Responsible for hiring and dismissal.
- Coordinates orientation schedule for new employees.
- Knowledgeable of budget process and identify cost reduction opportunities.
- Collaborates with Peri-op Managers to promote teamwork among Anesthesia/OR and to improve workflow processes within Peri-operative services.
- Participate in development of departmental and individual staff goals and accountable for achievement of departmental goals.
- Attends meetings concerning Dept. of Anesthesia.
- Maintains department in constant state of readiness for The Joint Commission Survey.
- Develops annual competency skills for CRNAs and Anesthesia Techs.
- Attend Leadership Development Courses annually.
