CST First Assistant (Full-Time, Days/Evenings + Call)
Community Healthcare System is hiring a CST First Assistant!
Job Description:
- Surgical Assistant anticipates the needs of the surgical team during an operation.
- Assists the surgeon with technical tasks such as selecting equipment, holding open incisions, stopping bleeding, closing the incision.
CST First Assistant Roles and Responsibilities:
- The CST First Assistant reports to the Director of Surgical Services.
- All assignments will be made by the Director or designee, with regard to optimum patient care, difficulty of the procedure, and physician’s request.
- The CST First Assistant will perform only the functions defined by the Association of Surgical Assistants and the American College of Surgeons (ACS).
- The broad functions of the surgical assistants are: 1) providing aid in exposure; 2) hemostasis, closure, and 3) other intraoperative technical functions that help the surgeon carry out a safe operation with optimal results for the patient.
- The surgical assistant performs these functions during the operation under the direction and supervision of the surgeon and in accordance with Hospital Policies and Procedures.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Current certification in surgical technology.
- Completion of CST First Assistant course in which the curriculum addressed all the content areas pf the “Core Curriculum of the CST First Assistant”.
- Obtains and maintains current certifications (BLS) as required in specialty areas (Critical Care).
