About the Job
The CT/RADIOGRAPHER performs the functions of assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating the care
of the patient scheduled for a procedure. The CT/RADIOGRAPHER is responsible for meeting standards of
practice, knowledge of all radiology/CT supplies, and radiology/CT equipment in the ER, and promoting
collaboration with physicians and personnel of the department
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
STANDARD I: Radiography Process
● Assists with the assessments, prepares patient for procedure, and reviews chart for completeness.
● Ensures proper identification of the patient by checking the identification band and by confirming with
patient’s verbal self-identification.
● Reviews patients’ charts and ensures that the required information has been obtained in order to perform
radiography ordered by the physician.
● Performs CT procedures at a technical level not requiring constant supervision of technical detail.
Performs those duties directly involved with a variety of technical procedures applying ionizing radiation
for the purpose of detecting pathology.
● Operates equipment safely and maintains A.L.A.R.A. standards while performing call types of
procedures.
STANDARD II: Behavioral and physiological status
● Assist to reduce anxiety in the care of the patient.
● The CT/RADIOGRAPHER assesses the patient’s level of consciousness and determines his/her
psychological state.
● The CT/RADIOGRAPHER provides privacy and a quiet environment and offers emotional support to
the patient.
STANDARD III: Professional responsibility and Policy and Procedures
● Follows all policies, protocols and procedures set up for the delivery of good and safe patient care.
● Proper documentation of care, including supplies used and any other data required by ER policy.
● Assists with the performing of labs, starting IV’s, obtaining vital signs, performing EKG’s, and assisting
with the application of splints as deemed necessary by the physician or Nurse on duty.
● Establishes and maintains a good rapport and professional relationship with fellow employees, other
departments, and medical staff.
● Understands the “Chain of Command” in reporting incidents during regular working hours.
STANDARD IV: General Duties
● Reports to work on a regular and timely basis and complies as needed with schedule changes.
● Maintains the confidentiality of patients’ information and records.
● Manages potential stressful situations caused by changes in schedules.
● Assesses, evaluates patient according to policy and procedure. Communicates with the physician on duty
regarding the patient’s abnormal findings or difficulties.
● Assists in keeping the work area and facility clean and safe for patients.
● Performs other duties necessary for the proper functioning of the department according to the policy and
procedure.
STANDARD V: Laboratory Duties
● Collect Laboratory samples and perform lab testing in accordance with established policies and
procedures, as well as COLA and CLIA regulations.
● Maintain an adequate supply reagents and consumables to perform quality testing.
● Perform all routine daily, weekly, monthly and periodic maintenance and function checks, following
established protocol.
● Perform Quality Control Checks as established by this laboratory.
● Perform all quality Assessment activities and document these activities for periodic review by the
assigned Laboratory Supervisor and/or the Laboratory Director.
STANDARD VI: Education and Training
● Is accountable for maintaining and improving his/her own radiology technical knowledge and skills
(Radiology Technologist Competence)
● Introduces self to patient and/or family members and explains procedures.
● Participates in training and continuing education programs.
● Develops self by seeking out new learning experiences.
● Ensures that annual in-services include updates in CPR, Back and Fire Safety, Universal
● Precautions and Code Blue. CPR is renewed every two (2) years.
● Responsible for reviewing Policy and Procedure Manual.
● Is responsible for providing patients with Radiology discharge instructions, verbal and written.
● Work adhering to US regulatory and Quality System requirements (21 CFR 820, etc).
● This position assumes and performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS

● Must be able to work in a confined area and under physical and mental stress at various times.
● The CT/Radiographer must be cable of bending, lifting to 50 pounds and standing for extended periods of
time.
● Willingness and ability to work all requirements of a 12-hour shift with or without reasonable accommodations.
● Knowledge of sterile technique.
● Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
● High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or
training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
● Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one
year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. (required)
● Must have graduated from an accredited American Registry of Radiologic Technology Program
● A minimum of two (2) years’ experience in the freestanding ER preferred.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
● CPR Certification
● Currently licensed as a CT Radiology Tech to practice in the State of Texas
● Certifications in computed tomography (ARRT)
