Job Description Summary
The CT Tech Aide, through communication, is responsible for patient flow and assisting the CT Technologist. Performs general receptionist and clerical duties in order to facilitate efficient functioning of the CT area. Needs to understand the patient’s condition to ensure their care and safety.
Job Description
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITES INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO:
a. Follows all CT Safety Policies.
b. Screens patients, obtains pertinent clinical history before CT examination and reviews with the CT Technologist.
c. Greets patients in a prompt and courteous manner.
d. Assists patient with changing for the exam.
e. Assists in sliding patient on and off stretcher to CT scan table.
f. Assists Technologist with positioning of patients.
g. Assists patient in and out of the scan room.
h. Transports patient when needed.
i. Conducts proper discharge of patient.
j. Assists in monitoring safe access to the CT suite.
k. Ensures the stocking of scan rooms and linen closets.
l. Completes special projects as requested by management.
m. Read and responds to all e-mails appropriately.
2. PATIENT EXPERIENCE
a. Acts as a resource person to all of SSH for CT.
b. Greets, receives, and escorts patients/visitors in a friendly, caring, and professional manner at all times.
3. CUSTOMER SERVICE
a. Answers questions or finds some who can.
b. Answers the telephone identifying self and area.
c. Relays messages accurately and timely.
d. Understands and demonstrates concern for patient confidentiality.
e. Operates the intercom.
f. Acts as resource person to nursing staff and support services.
g. Notifies nursing staff of STAT order.
4. USES COMPUTER TO ENTER ORDERS
a. Locate a patient within the system
b. Enter orders using Epic.
c. Use message system.
d. Retrieve lab results.
e. Print rounds report, daily census, etc.
f. Cancel orders.
g. Discharge a patient.
h. Call STAT orders.
5. CHARTS
a. File report into the patient’s chart in appropriate areas.
b. Add necessary forms as needed.
6. SUPPLIES/SERVICES
a. Order supplies from Stores.
b. Order supplies from outside vendor.
c. Order nutrition from the Nutrition and Foods Dept.
d. Obtain services from Facilities, Environmental Services.
7. ASSUMES ALL OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES AS NECESSARY
a. Demonstrates dependability/flexibility in meeting scheduling needs of the department and Hospital.
b. Provides safe, uncluttered environment for patient as observed by licensed personnel.
c. Answers phone following SSHS standard for telephone etiquette.
8. TECHNOLOGY AND LEARNING
a. Utilizes all software applications required by departmental standards.
b. Access Outlook to review email, learning management and other resources as applicable.
c. Participates in continued learning and possess a willingness and ability to learn and utilize new technology and procedures that continue to develop in their role and throughout the organization.
d. Embraces technological advances that allow us to communicate information effectively and efficiently based on role.
9. CT ROOM WORKFLOW
a. Provides CT preparation to all patients in a confidential area with clearly understood instructions.
b. Assists with dressing and undressing of patients
c. Cleans CT room after every patient
d. Assist in transporting patients
e. Assists CT Technologists with lifting, turning, moving and positioning of patients from stretchers, beds and wheelchairs.
f. Reads correct information on patient name bands.
g. Reviews with CT Technologist physician orders for complete information
h. Matches orders with control sheet.
i. Ensures physicians orders are obtained prior to patient appointments
j. Communicates to CT Technologists of waiting patients.
k. Along with CT Technologist, inform patients of any delays to appointments.
l. Understands preparations for CT exams
m. Answer phone, identifying yourself, in a courteous manner, within 3 rings
n. Daily interaction with Physician Staff and department Radiologists.
10. COMPLIANCE.
a. Works within legal, regulatory and ethical practice standards relevant to the position
b. Complies with applicable policies and procedures.
c. Safeguards the privacy and security of patient information. The employee complies with policies and procedures relating to SSH’s privacy and security programs
d. Brings potential compliance issues to a manager, supervisor, director or VP
e. Complies with the mandatory education requirements of the compliance, privacy and security programs

13. SAFETY AWARENESS – FOSTERS A “CULTURE OF SAFETY” THROUGH PERSONAL OWNERSHIP AND COMMITMENT TO A SAFE ENVIRONMENT
a. Successfully answers safety questions in annual mandatory education program
b. Understands individual roles/responsibilities during hospital codes (e.g., Code Green, Code Red)
c. Utilizes proper body mechanics when performing all aspects of job. Maintains a neat, organized work environment
d. Verifies patient identification with 2 identifiers prior to the start of any procedure.
e. Complies with the current CDC hand hygiene guidelines through proper handwashing. Adheres to universal precautions, makes appropriate use of personal protective equipment at all times and appropriately disposes of hazardous materials. Maintains awareness of MSDS sheets and how to access
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Education - Preferred
Equivalent to four (4) years of high school
Minimum Work Experience
Requires six to twelve (6-12) months’ experience to be fully proficient
Required Certifications
Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
Required additional Knowledge and Abilities
- Computer experience
- Medical Terminology helpful.
- Demonstrated skills in customer service.
- Must have excellent communication and organizational skills
- Must maintain a professional manner and appearance
- Must be able to work independently as well as in a team
- Must be self-motivated and have the ability to work in a healthcare setting
- Basic knowledge of personal computer (PC) systems, ability to learn basic scheduling software, and work with word processing applications
