OCCUPATIONAL SUMMARY
Operates computerized tomography equipment to produce films of designated portions of the human body for neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Collects pertinent medical information and reviews physician's order to identify reason for examination and potential contraindications.
2. Explains procedure to patient and ensures consent form is signed if required for examination.
3. Positions patient, administers oral or intravenous contrast as required. Monitors patient reaction and responds to adverse reactions with emergency procedures as necessary.
4. Selects equipment parameters and logs pertinent information.
5. Performs scanning procedure. Modifies parameters as required to improve visualization of desired anatomy.
6. May assist physician with biopsy and aspiration procedures, practicing sterile technique as required. Sets up sterile trays with all supplies and instruments required for procedures. .
7. Organizes images, performs the scan and transfers exam to PACS system.
8. Provides assistance with transportation of patients to and from Emergency Room and Inpatient areas.
9. Responsible for ensuring communication to radiologist regarding Acute Stroke patients and certifying compliance with Acute Stroke protocols.
8. Enters patient charges into computer.
9. Performs minor maintenance and repairs on Computerized Tomography (CT) equipment. Refers other problems to the Computerized Tomography (CT) Supervisor.
10. Assists in orienting and training personnel as necessary.
11. Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Immediately reports any mechanical or electrical equipment malfunctions, unsafe conditions, or employee/patient/visitor injury accident to Manager.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
In addition to the duties above, the CT/Diagnostic Tech have the following job responsibilities:
- Performs myelograms, venograms, arthrograms, and other studies requiring intravenous or Sudbury injection of contrast medium.
- Assists physicians with studies. Delivers intravenous medication under direct supervision of physicians.
- Regularly performs the duties and responsibilities of the Radiologic Technologist. Performs routine radiographic examinations in accordance with specific operating instructions and safety standards.
- Assesses patient condition throughout procedure and observes for adverse reactions. Recognizes and responds to emergency situations according to departmental procedures.
- Must be able to work in a team environment. May be asked to work in another department as needs dictate.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES/LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIRED
1. Graduate of accredited school of Radiologic Technology.
2. Registered CT Technologist from ARRT (CT) or NMTCB (CT)
OR
Registry eligible through ARRT (CT) or NMTCB (CT)
3. Basic knowledge of cross sectional anatomy.
4. Ability to insert intravenous catheter.
5. Ability to deal tactfully and pleasantly with various types of patients, visitors, physicians and other personnel.
6. Certified in cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
7. Registry eligible must be registered as a CT technologist within 6 months of start date.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES/LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION PREFERRED
1. Prior training or experience in Computerized Tomography (CT) scanning.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Possible exposure to infectious/contagious diseases, hazardous chemicals and materials, needlesticks, blood and body fluids. All employees are offered the opportunity to receive the Hepatitis B vaccination series. May be exposed to radiation and may be required to handle radioactive materials.
