Professional Qualifications: Cooks have the ability to understand and interpret recipes. Cooks are able to understand written directions, and the dangers that come with working with the necessary chemicals, equipment and supplies in the dietary department.
Physical Requirements: Cooks understand the physical demands their jobs require and realize they need to:
* pass a physical exam.
* lift, stir, push, pull and move food, equipment, supplies, etc.
* lift a maximum of fifty (50) pounds occasionally each work day.
* lift thirty (30) pounds consistently.
* be able to move and stretch in such a way as to be able to reach areas above their head and below their waist.
* go up and down stairs.
* bend, stoop and twist almost constantly throughout the day.
* tolerate heat, steam, and food smells.
* taste and smell foods to assure the quality of the item.
* see and read well enough to read recipes, written directions, check food items in the oven, etc.
* hear well enough to hear the timers, buzzers, etc., and to converse with the residents and families when they have questions, etc.
* remain active and on their feet for up to four (4) hours at a time.
* walk and transport food, equipment, supplies, etc., to other areas of the facility.
