Payette School District currently has an opening for a full-time Custodial/Bus Driver for the 2024-2025 school:
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY TO
Maintenance Supervisor, Superintendent of School and Building Administration
SCHOOL BUS DRIVER
The applicant must be at least 21, have a clean driving record, and possess a current CDL, class B, with school bus and airbrake endorsements. The applicant must also pass a background check, submit a drug test, and pass a physical. The driver must be able to operate the bus and observe all laws, rules, and regulations.
QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma
- Hold a Class B Commercial Driver’s License with passenger endorsement
- Meet the physical examination standards of the federal and state law, administrative rules, and Board policy
- Is twenty-one years of age or older
- Minimum safe driving experience as determined by the Board
- Ability to pass a physical agility test and prove the ability to evacuate the bus, including the ability to move students
- Pass a pre-employment drug test and random drug tests while employed
- Must not be addicted to the use of intoxicants or narcotics
- Have an excellent driving record
- Ability to pass CPR and first aid courses
- Knowledge of bus passenger safety and effective discipline procedures
- Sufficient mechanical aptitude to diagnose minor problems and make appropriate repairs
- Able to maintain passenger discipline to ensure their safety and well-being and to protect against vandalism
- Works well with students, staff, and parents
- Awareness of and commitment to proper bus maintenance
- Able to sit and occasionally required to walk or stand
- Able to grasp tools and occasionally lift or move up the seventy-five pounds
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Maintain confidentiality of staff and students
JANITORIAL
Inspecting Facilities and Readying them for Use
1. Open and close the building each day and determine, before leaving, that all doors and windows are secured and all appropriate lights are turned off
2. Operate heat, ventilation, and air conditioning systems to provide temperatures appropriate to the season and to ensure economical use of fuel, water, and electricity
3. Conduct an ongoing program of general and preventative maintenance, upkeep, and repair, making minor repairs and reporting primary repair needs, unsafe situations, vandalism, or other damage to school property promptly to the maintenance and grounds supervisor or night shift head custodian
4. Move furniture or equipment within the building as required for various activities and as directed
5. Other duties as assigned
Other Building Maintenance
1. Clean classrooms, offices, the library, and the faculty room daily, including dust mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and emptying wastebaskets in these areas
2. Clean corridors after each school day and during the day when their condition requires it
3. Clean and sanitize bathroom and locker room fixtures and floors daily, and replenish paper and soap supplies as needed
4. Clean and sanitize all fixtures, including telephones, door handles, and drinking fountains, daily
5. Clean the cafeteria dining areas after use
6. Clean all windows on both the inside and outside as scheduled
7. Identify maintenance problems and report more significant issues to the appropriate person promptly
8. Keep maintenance closets in a clean and tidy condition
9. Use supplies and chemicals properly and safely according to instructions on the labels of the manufacturer’s containers
10. Other duties as assigned
Grounds maintenance
1. Keep the building premises, including sidewalks, driveways, and play areas, neat and clean at all times
2. Shovel, plow, salt, and sweep sidewalks, steps, driveways, and parking areas as necessary
3. Perform summer work to include such tasks as deep cleaning, painting, and any other duties assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor
Other
1. Obey all federal and state laws, administrative rules, and Board policies about plant operation, fire, safety, and environment
2. Comply with all federal and state laws, administrative rules, and Board policies about the storage and disposal of recyclables, trash, waste, and debris
3. Maintain and prepare work-related records and reports as directed
4. Inform the Maintenance Supervisor of replacement supplies in advance of need
5. Keep maintenance closets in a clean and tidy condition
6. Remain on school premises for the entire shift
7. Keep an inventory of supplies and equipment and inform the maintenance and grounds supervisor or night shift head custodian of replacements in advance of need
8. Seek assistance should emergencies arise
9. Represent the school district in a positive manner
10. Know and follow school district policy and chain of command
11. Perform other duties as assigned

COMPENSATION
Salary is based on experience and skills; starting pay is $33,000-$42,000 for 40 hours per week. The position qualifies for health, dental, vision, life insurance benefits, PERSI retirement, paid vacation, and access to optional ancillary insurance and retirement products.
This position shall be considered “employment at will” in all respects. The “employment period” and other descriptions and terms outlined in this job description shall not create a property right for the employee. They are set forth only to advise the employee of when and what type of services the district will require so long as the employment continues.
