Job Summary:
Carter G. Woodson School is a non-profit charter school in Winston-Salem, N.C. We serve 500 students from grades K – 12 each year and support over 80+ staff. We are seeking a diligent and reliable Custodian/Facilities Staff person to join our team. As a Custodian, you will be responsible for maintaining cleanliness and tidiness of our facilities. Your primary duties will include cleaning designated areas, restocking supplies, and ensuring a safe and sanitary environment for our staff, students, and visitors. The ideal candidate will have attention to detail, a strong work ethic, and the ability to work independently.

Shift:
8:00am to 4:00pm

Responsibilities:
- Perform cleaning tasks such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and sanitizing surfaces
- Empty trash receptacles and replace waste bags
- Clean and disinfect restrooms, including toilets, sinks, and mirrors
- Restock supplies such as toilet paper, soap, and paper towels
- Maintain cleanliness in common areas, including lobby, break room, and conference rooms
- Assist with set up and clean up for meetings and events
- Notify management of any repairs or maintenance needed in the building
- Follow all safety protocols and regulations in carrying out duties

Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Proven experience as a janitor or in a similar role
- Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and equipment
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to work independently
- Physical stamina and the ability to lift and move heavy objects
- Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize tasks
- Effective communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with all staff members and visitors

Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience in commercial cleaning or custodial services
- Knowledge of safety regulations and procedures
- Ability to operate and maintain cleaning equipment, such as floor buffers and carpet cleaners
- Basic knowledge of plumbing and electrical systems for minor repairs and maintenance
