Custodian/Floater, Weekends, Part-time - Pennsylvania College of Technology

Overview:

This position will perform general housekeeping/custodial duties in the College's student residences and other duties on campus as needed. The work hours for this position are determined by the College and are subject to change. The Academic year and summer hours are established to meet the needs of the department and the College. This position will be required to work during delays and snow closure days that may fall on scheduled workdays; will be required to work overtime on short notice to include evenings, weekends, special events and call ins at the discretion of the appropriate supervisor. This person will be required to work occasional overtime (often on short notice) and irregular work hours. They will be required to drive out-of-are and may be required to work in different buildings/locations to accommodate needs of work unit. The schedule for this position may differ dependent upon time of year.

 

Schedule: Saturday and Sunday, 10:00 am to 8:30 pm, with a half hour lunch break.

Qualifications:

EDUCATION

• High School Diploma or GED or equivalent. Preferred

EXPERIENCE

• Experience as a custodian. Preferred
• Familiarity with automated cleaning equipment. Preferred

ABILITIES AND SKILLS

• Ability to read, write, and interpret instructions. Required
• Possession of a valid driver's license. Preferred

 

Responsibilities:

Dispose of trash.

Clean common living space including appliances.

Empty cigarette urns and clean as necessary.

Sweep, dust mop, and wet mop areas.

Vacuum and shampoo carpeted areas.

Clean fountains, ashtrays, and blackboards.

Dust and/or wash areas requiring same.

Clean bathrooms to include all sinks, counters, toilets, showers, mirrors, and replenish supplies.

Clean restrooms and replenish supplies.

Wash windows and door glass.

Clean laundry rooms to include washers and dryers, sinks, and counters.

Clean Police guard areas.

Clean apartments at the end of each semester or when vacated.

Strip and refinish floors and maintain all types of floor surfaces.

Sweep stairs and stairwells and wash same.

Remove ice and snow from stairs, entrances, and walks.

Wash walls, window ledges, woodwork, furnishings; remove graffiti.

Replace light bulbs and tubes; clean light fixtures.

Keep area stocked with cleaning supplies; submit supply and repair requisitions to Supervisor.

Check exterior areas for trash, broken glass, etc., and clean up as necessary.

Keep housekeeping equipment clean and perform minor repairs on same.

Respond to calls requesting clean up as needed.

When leaving buildings, responsible for seeing that buildings are properly secured.

Perform minor repairs of housekeeping equipment.

Physical Standards and Special Job Features:

Exposure to dust and harsh chemicals in performing duties.

Lifting of 65 lbs. maximum, without assistance, with frequent lifting and carrying of objects up to 50 lbs.

May require travel between buildings during shift.

May require climbing or working from ladders and scaffolding.
