REPORTS TO:              Principal/Assistant Principal

JOB GOAL:                  To provide students and staff with a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean, and efficient place in which to learn, play and develop.    

PROCEDURES:            Each custodian will have assigned duties - daily, weekly, monthly and/or seasonal from the building Principal.  No custodian can work over 40 hours/week without prior approval from the Superintendent or the Superintendent's designated person.  The Principal is responsible for making the schedule, signing the time sheets and doing the evaluation.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Keeps building and premises, including sidewalks, driveways, and play areas neat and clean.
2. Sweep and dust classrooms.
3. Clean corridors as scheduled.
4. Clean and disinfect bathrooms as scheduled.
5. Regulates heat, ventilation and air conditional systems to provide comfort and to insure economical usage of utilities.
6. Washes windows as scheduled.
7. Performs grass cutting and trimming as scheduled.
8. Keeps a floor maintenance schedule.
9. Changes light bulbs as needed.
10. Assumes responsibility for the opening and/or closing of the buildings each school day.
11. Keeps an inventory on cleaning supplies and equipment.
12. Moves furniture or equipment as the need occurs.
13. Supervise any student workers assigned him.
14. Other related duties as assigned by the Principal/Assistant Principal.
15. Employee must maintain good personal hygiene with neat appearance at all times.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

KNOWLEDGE OF:

Basic methods, materials, tools and equipment used in custodial work and routine maintenance.

Proper methods of string equipment, materials and supplies.

Proper lifting techniques.

ABILITY TO:

Perform routine custodial activities at an assigned school site or facility to maintain buildings, locker rooms and adjacent grounds areas in a clean, orderly, and secure condition.

Use cleaning materials, equipment and methods according to pre-determined standards.

Learn and apply knowledge of the schedules, procedures and use of equipment and supplies used in custodial work.

Learn appropriate safety precautions and procedures.

            Maintain tools and equipment signed in clean working order and provide proper security.

Perform minor non-technical repairs.

Observe and report need for maintenance and repair.

Perform heavy physical labor.

Understand and follow oral and written directions.

Meet schedules and time lines.

Inspect and assure the security of facilities during assigned shift.

Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Walks, bend, lift push and stand for extended periods of time.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Any combination equivalent to: high school diploma, G.E.D. Certificate or demonstrated progress toward obtaining a G.E.D. as required by Kentucky law.
