State Hospital South (SHS) is looking for a full-time Custodian. SHS is in beautiful Southeast Idaho, an area best known for Oregon Trail and Native American history, amazing fly fishing, towering mountain peaks with abundant wildlife and awe-inspiring geological sites. State Hospital South in Blackfoot provides psychiatric inpatient treatment and skilled nursing care for Idaho’s adult citizens with the most serious and persistent mental illnesses. The hospital works in partnership with families and communities to enable clients to return to community living. State Hospital South includes 110 psychiatric adult beds and 42 skilled nursing beds. It also maintains a statewide program to restore the competency of criminal justice patients.

 Any applicant offered employment in this position at the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare will be required to complete a criminal history background investigation. Employment is dependent upon satisfactory results of the investigation.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:

• Performs heavy-duty cleaning in bedrooms, conference rooms, and lavatories, etc.
• Cleans, sanitizes and polishes bath, lavatory, shower, and sink fixtures.
• Dusts, washes, sponge mops; sanitizes furniture, woodwork, walls, windows, and glass items.
• Cleans shades and covers on light fixtures.
• Removes waste and debris from areas.
• Selects products and compounds for cleaning jobs; measures and mixes compounds, disinfectants, and sanitizing agents and applies according to procedures or manufacturers’ specifications.
• Orders supplies for custodial closets and stocks with paper products, cleaning compounds and similar items 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

You must possess all the minimum qualifications below to pass the exam for this position. Please make sure your resume or work history supports your meeting the minimum qualifications for this position. • Perform duties associated with commercial cleaning, including operating industrial-type cleaning equipment such as high-speed buffers and vacuum cleaners
• Cleaning restrooms, bath facilities, locker rooms, swimming pools, and similar facilities 
• Moving heavy items such as tables, chairs, and bleachers
• Repairing the equipment and related devices you operate 

Below is preferred experience. It is not required for the position but applicants with this experience may receive consideration over other applicants.

•   Experience in operating: vacuums, buffers, burnishers, auto scrubbers and carpet cleaning machines.
