DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS BETWEEN RELATED CLASSES
The incumbents in a Custodian class receive basic on-the-job training as it pertains to cleaning schedules and routines; incumbents work independently in maintaining the cleanliness, appearance and safety of an assigned area at a District school or facility; and may provide work direction to student workers assigned as custodian helpers. The Lead Custodian class serves as the lead worker at a large school or District facility; it is distinguished from a Custodian in that in addition to handling a regular cleaning assignment, incumbents coordinate activities between custodial staff assigned to the site, are responsible for ensuring cleaning assignments are properly completed and custodial staff has the necessary supplies to complete their assignments.
