Role Summary/Purpose:
DETAILED data warehouse and SQL knowledge required.
Data warehouse is very complicated and must have extensive experience.
Some understanding of data warehouse development with QA experience would be preferred.
Experience using Cognos extracts required.
Prefer local applicants, but we are open to remote for the right candidate.
This is a 100% work-from-home position, with expectation of monthly in-person meetings (for local people).
Equipment will be provided.
We are seeking a detail-oriented Data Warehouse and Business Intelligence Quality/Data Analyst to ensure the quality and reliability of our student data warehouse systems. The ideal candidate will have a robust understanding of databases, ETL processes, and data validation techniques. This role involves performing data quality assessments, creating and executing test cases, and collaborating with the development team to optimize data integrity and performance.
Perform Quality Assurance: Develop and execute comprehensive test plans and test cases designed to detect issues in data warehousing systems.
ETL Testing: Validate ETL processes, ensuring that data is correctly extracted, transformed, and loaded into the data warehouse.
Report, dashboard and semantic layer testing in tools like Cognos and Tableau.
Data Validation: Conduct data quality checks to verify accuracy, consistency, and completeness of data.
Automation: Develop and maintain automated testing scripts for data validation and ETL processes.
Collaborate: Work closely with Data Engineers, Developers, Business Analysts, and other stakeholders to understand requirements and resolve any data quality issues.
Defect Tracking: Log, track, and report defects and work with development teams to ensure timely resolution.
Documentation: Maintain comprehensive documentation of test plans, test cases, and testing procedures.
Compliance: Ensure data warehouse processes comply with departmental standards.
SQL and Data Warehouse coding experience a plus.
Above average Microsoft Word/Excel skills and an understanding of XML.
Understanding of star schema and data warehouse structures like tables, indexes, facts, dimensions and bridge tables.
Report Writing experience in Cognos is preferred.
Knowledge of Tableau/PowerBI is a plus but not required.
Evaluating and analyzing data related to business requirements.
Prior experience in a higher education technology environment is a PLUS.
Designing and executing the test scripts and test scenarios.
Coordinating with other team members during testing, validating, and evaluating new applications and functions.
Ability to extract data from a data warehouse and use comparative analysis to confirm data quality.
Demonstrated aptitude to quickly and effectively adapt to technologies outside of current experience.
Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work as part of a team and independently.
Engaged in continuous improvement of internal processes and procedures.
Ability to work with only minimal supervision.
Ability to work extra hours and recognize the need to do so.
Assist Data Team with defining and documenting Common Business Data Definitions
Possesses sound analytical problem-solving and documentation skills.
Communicates effectively with users.
Demonstrates ability to prioritize conflicting demands.
