Job Summary:
The Designer is the person who supports the sales and projects staff in developing designs and solutions for sales opportunities. The Designer acts as the project manager for design opportunities and works with other estimators to translate their design to an accurate cost estimate. . The Designer will also assist in the day-to-day sales and projects activities of the Company.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- The Designer will work with the sales team to design low-voltage solutions for IES clients.
- The Designer will provide complete project design, space layouts, selection of applicable materials and define basis for assigning and estimating labor. Write scope of work and develop cost estimate in response to bid specifications.
- The Designer will attend in person or virtually all required design meetings with end users or contractors. Track all site visits and keep detailed information of site conditions for use in the translation to a cost estim
- The Designer will interface and manage project specific CAD and BIM resources both internal and subcontracted to complete design drawing packages
- The Designer will review drawings, RFPs and other design work products for quality assurance to support IES and the client’s design standards.
- The Designer will be able to develop and graphically layout a construction schedule with the end user and IES operational team input. Additionally, the Designer will work with IES scheduling resources to build project schedules as needed.
- The Designer will act as liaison between and meet with sales, project management and operations when project is turned over for installation. Will also confirm that the sales price and actual installation costs coincide.
- The Designer will follow Company guidelines on preferred selection of vendors and products. The Designer will work with vendors to obtain best solution, most competitive price and proper lead-time on materials.
- The Designer will provide floor plan takeoffs and project application per Company’s recommended solutions book and technical support personnel.
- The Designer will ensure that all design work meets the customer and Company quality and safety level.
- The Designer will attend training and review sessions on technical requirements per the Company’s training guidelines.
- The Designer will meet bid schedules and deadlines, working within and meeting a very strict timeframe.
- The Designer will have the ability to lead small groups of designers and cost estimators as needed.
- The Designer will handle other responsibilities as assigned.

- Must be self-motivated, positive in approach, professional and lead others to create, develop and implement project process improvement(s).

- Must have proven problem solving skills, critical thinking skills and the ability to effectively read, write and give oral presentation(s).
- Must have proven high skill level to interpret blueprints and other project documents, including but not limited to, specifications, reporting and quality requirements.
- Must be able to travel within the United States as needed.
- Must be able to learn Company and customer project management systems.
- Must be able to manage multiple projects/estimates and present a high level of organization.
Education, Certification, License, and Skill Requirements:
- Must have at least a High School diploma or GED equivalency; Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
- RCDD, CTS-D or other low voltage design credential strongly
- Low Voltage industry experience preferred.
- Must be able to manage multiple scopes
- Must have experience in customer interface, such as liaison between the customer and the Company.
- Must have a minimum of seven (5) years of low-voltage Design
- Must have a minimum of seven (5) years of experience in low voltage contracting or a related technical or construction field.
- Must be proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and MS Project).
- Familiarity with AutoCAD and Revit strongly preferred.
- Must meet Company minimum driving standards.
- Must be able to manage multiple tasks/projects simultaneously.
- Must have proven ability to design, estimate and develop a written and graphic representation of the company’s proposed solutions utilizing the software resources provided by the company.
