Data Center Technician II - Secaucus, NJ - Evocative

Job Summary:

This is a full-time position. The ideal candidate will demonstrate an ability and desire to take what they currently know and to grow their skills and responsibilities over time. An interest in and strong familiarity with computers/IT is required. 2-3 Years of specific experience with relevant job tasks is required.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for deploying and maintaining servers and supporting infrastructure in a fast-paced environment with rapidly shifting priorities. The role will also entail providing customer support via an email/ticketing system to answer questions and troubleshoot problems. Previous technical support is required.

Additional Information:

• Looking for applicants who are available to work weekdays and weekends
• Shifts available: 2^nd shift, 3^rd shift, and mixed shifts
• The position requires the applicant to work on-site and occasionally requires overtime.
• Training two weeks during 1^st shift, 9 am to 5 pm
• Salary $27- $33/ Hour

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Able to perform all essential job functions, including walking, standing, bending, stooping, climbing, lifting, and manual dexterity, with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Able to lift heavy equipment/items up to 50 pounds.
• Able to work days/nights/weekends/holidays, if needed and/or required.
• Responsible for fixing and installing sophisticated circuits and performing custom installations.
• Racks and stacks customer equipment.
• Reads installation plans (Visio Drawings / Spreadsheets) and implements installation accordingly.
• Install circuits requiring sophisticated fiber terminations.
• Resolves work priorities from a ticketing queue and ensures consistency to all contribute times.
• Troubleshoots switched/multiplexed / media converted circuits; escalates to and works with a networking group, as needed.
• Works with customers to troubleshoot issues.
• Installs/tests/modifies cross-connects per SOPs and ensures accurate cable management of coax, fiber, twisted pair copper, and intra-building cross-connects.
• Installs and tests sophisticated cross-connect circuits (switched, multiplexed, etc.)
• Maintains detailed written records of all work activity.
• Designs and leads cage/infrastructure modification projects.

Required Skills/Abilities:

• Excellent verbal, written, and documentation skills.

• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
• The ability to work in a fast-paced environment
• 2-3 years of experience in data center operations or a related IT role.
• Knowledge of server hardware, storage systems, and network equipment from major vendors.
• Understanding of data center environmental systems and industry best practices.
• Understanding of structured cabling design, installation, testing, and best practices.
• Strong problem-solving, analytical, and troubleshooting skills.
• Excellent communication and documentation abilities.

Education and Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent.

Physical Requirements:

Able to lift heavy equipment/items up to 50 pounds.
