Data Engineer - Houston, TX - Empower Pharmacy

Position Summary:

In this critical role, the Data Engineer will design, develop, and maintain cloud-based data infrastructure solutions that are pivotal to Empower's operations. Your work will ensure that our data processing is scalable, efficient, and secure, leveraging your expertise in Amazon Web Services (AWS) serverless technologies like Lambda, Step Functions, Simple Queue Service (SQS) Queues, and DynamoDB. As a leader in modern data architecture, you will create robust Extract, Load, and Transform (ELT) workflows and implement star schemas and data marts to streamline data storage, access, and analysis. Your efforts will support our mission to produce innovative medications and expand access to quality, affordable medication.

 

You will also take a hands-on approach in driving data strategy initiatives and contribute to data visualization and insights projects. By integrating external data sources through Representational State Transfer (REST) Application Programming Interfaces (APIs), you will create a comprehensive data ecosystem that supports business growth. Your role will involve ensuring the highest standards of data quality, security, and compliance, and you will continuously seek to improve our data systems by staying abreast of the latest technologies and methodologies.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Develops and deploys Cloud-Based Data Infrastructure Solutions.
• Creates, Manages, and Optimizes ELT Workflows and Pipelines to enable data analytics and AI/ML capabilities.
• Designs and implements ELT workflows using both visual ELT tools and manual coding, ensuring reliability and efficiency in data integration.
• Works on Modern Data Architecture Development to implement innovative technology infrastructure.
• Spearheads the deployment of cloud-based data solutions to ensure scalability, reliability, quality, and security.
• Designs modern data architectures, including star schema and data marts to facilitate accessible, organized, and actionable data storage and analysis.
• Leverages REST APIs for seamless data integration, enhancing our comprehensive data ecosystem.
• Drives data strategy initiatives and contributes to the visualization and insights projects, applying analytical expertise to foster business growth.
• Ensures the highest standards of data quality, security, and compliance across all projects and platforms.
• Develops star schema, data marts, and other data modeling techniques for optimized data storage, access, and analysis.
• Utilizes REST APIs for data integration.
• Leverages REST APIs to integrate external data sources, ensuring a comprehensive and seamless data ecosystem.
• Contributes to data strategy. analytics and reporting projects.

While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee is required to talk and hear. The employee is often required to remain in a stationary position for a significant amount of the workday and frequently use their hands and fingers to handle or feel in order to access, input,and retrieve information from the computer and other office productivity devices. The employee is regularly required to move about the office and around the corporate campus. The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. This position is remote, except for occasional events like orientation, team meetups, special training or planning sessions, etc.

• Deep expertise in building data models and creating complex queries using Sales Qualified Leads (SQLs).
• Strong project management and organizational skills.
• The ideal candidate will have a solid knowledge of many of the following areas:
  • Relational SQL and Not Only SQL databases (e.g., Postgres, My Structured Query Language, SQL Server, DynamoDB, MongoDB, etc.).
  • Deep experience with ETL tools like (Apache Hop, Pentaho, Informatica, AWS Glue, SQL Server Integration Services etc.) and a solid grasp of designing, deploying, and maintaining workflows and data pipelines.
  • AWS Core Concepts (Roles, Security Groups, AWS Lambda (Python), Step Functions, Batch, Kinesis etc.).
  • Data ingestion (e.g., FiveTran or similar).
  • Data warehousing and storage (e.g., Snowflake, RedShift, Vertica or similar).
  • Data transformation (e.g., data build tool or similar).
  • Visual reporting and analysis (e.g., Power Business Intelligence or similar).
  • Python programming experience.
• Commits to open-source projects are a bonus, especially in the data analytics space.
• Excellent attention to detail.

Experience and Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Informatics, Information Systems, or another quantitative field.
• Minimum of 3 years of dimensional and relational data modeling experience.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in a Data Engineering role.
• Experience with database and data warehouse concepts such as facts and dimensions to design and develop data models that support enterprise reporting and analytic needs.
• Experience with wrangling, exploring, and analyzing data to answer specific business questions and identify opportunities for improvement.
• Expertise in AWS Serverless technologies (Lambda, Step Functions, SQS Queues, DynamoDB) to create scalable, efficient data processing solutions.
• AWS Data Engineering, preferred.
