Data Manager - Clinical Research - Goal Concordant Care opportunity. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree with a major in Computer Science, Statistics, or related field and five years of experience in database design and management. With preferred Master's degree, three years of experience is required.
Prefer candidates with three years of experience with the fundamental principles and best practices of data cleaning, and how to ensure the integrity and reliability of clinical research databases throughout their lifecycle. Experience building clinical research databases using Power BI, MS Access, MS Excel, Redcap or Qualtrics is a plus.
About the Center for Goal Concordant Care Research
Individuals living with advanced cancer often have to confront complex decisions regarding their treatments, preferred care settings, and care philosophy. Unfortunately, many do not fully grasp the gravity of their illness, leading to treatments that are misaligned with their goals. This often results in frequent emergency room visits, avoidable hospitalizations, and aggressive end-of-life measures.
Goal concordant care, an institutional priority at MD Anderson, aims at improving communication among patients, caregivers and clinicians, enhancing the quality of life of patients with advanced cancer and their families, and delivering high quality end-of-life care. To address these challenges, MD Anderson has established the Center for Goal Concordant CareResearch. The Center aims to bridge existing knowledge gaps by leveraging cutting-edge scientific advancements to tailor appropriate care interventions for the right patient at the right time.
The overarching vision is to establish Center for Goal Concordant CareResearch as the preeminent international research center revolutionizing the science of person-centered, goal-concordant, and value-based care. Achieving this vision necessitates collaboration with global experts and an unwavering commitment to enhancing the clinical practices of oncology professionals through research and education.
The Center for Goal Concordant CareResearch seamlessly aligns with MD Anderson's strategic priorities of expanding its Reach, pursuing Breakthroughs, and delivering Value. Initially, the Center will focus on talent acquisition, expert engagement, and the establishment of operational policies and guidelines. The Center for Goal Concordant CareResearch is expected to accelerate research in patient-clinician communication and supportive/palliative care, ultimately enhancing care for patients with advanced cancer worldwide. This will benefit not only patients but also caregivers, healthcare professionals, and healthcare systems.
JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES
Database Administration and Maintenance 40%
· Oversees the design, implementation, maintenance, troubleshooting and back-up of clinical and research database applications including but not limited to Power BI, MS Access, MS Excel, Redcap, and Qualtrics.
· Designs database applications that support data collection efforts undertaken by the Center for Goal Concordant Care Research
· Assists with the creation and maintenance of systems for coding, editing, and data entry of our research studies.
· Develops HIPPAA-compliant database views for integration with statistical analysis programs.
· Studies and analyzes the clinical trial and translational study workflows; identify and transform the workflow process from the functional requirements into the application specifications.
· Works closely with clinical research trial stakeholders to obtain and continuously update study data and content related to each clinical research studies.
Data capturing, Analysis and reporting 30%
· Builds reports, performs queries, and pulls clinical data from Epic.
· Conducts in-depth data analysis and generates regular and as needed reports for various stakeholders. Stakeholders include Research Center team and leadership, Executive Leadership, Grant funding agencies, and Donors.
· Designs and maintains management reports for various purposes; define and track KPIs for clinical research study monitoring.
· Works with faculty and research staff on problems related to accrual and/or reporting, including patient identification for selected studies with institutional research tools.
· Ensures data is complete, consistent and accurate prior to statistical analysis.
· Conducts research data quality control through the performance of internal audits.
· Manages the collection, analysis and reporting of clinical program metrics for the Center for Goal Concordant Care Research.
· Prepares data for research and business proposals, data safety monitoring reports, manuscripts, and conference abstracts.
· Completes and submits results report for all Clinical Trials CR Study Registration (e.g. clinicaltrials.gov).
· Performs basic statistical analyses, continuing reviews and detailed analyses with descriptive statistics.
· Identifies relevant data from institutional databases (EIW, FIRE, WEBI) to provide data for retrospective research protocols.
· Identifies and creates OneConnect reports relevant to protocol screening and research study development.
· Uses standard reporting tools such as Business Objects, Excel, WEBI, SAP Universes, Epic Reporting Workbench, Epic Cubes, Epic Slicer Dicer, Tableau, and Strata Analytics, etc.
Leadership/Subject Matter expert 20%
· Serves as the IT liaison for database related activities.
· Serves as departmental contact or superuser for clinical trial matching system go-lives, query building, and training efforts.
· Provides support services to employees for complex, technical and configuration issues related to Microsoft Teams and Power BI reports.
· Stays current on Microsoft 365 changes, updates and new Microsoft releases for Office 365 and related products.
· Efficiently and independently diagnoses, troubleshoots and resolves technical issues. Recognize and escalate difficult technical issues within the organization.
· Develops user training, instructional materials, and SOP's as needed.
· Presents at meetings as requested to demonstrate end user functionality.
