How you will create an impact
As a Data Standards Lead Business Analyst, the role will be responsible for enhancing and extending the current Data Standards process as well as contributing to the design, development and execution of the enterprise Data Ingestion Strategy. The data standards support the underwriting, claims, finance and reinsurance business processes for the insurance domain.
Key responsibilities
- Work with the business stakeholders in the Underwriting, Claims, Finance and Reinsurance business areas to identify Critical Business Terms / Data Elements within their business processes, define the standards (name, definition, reference data etc) for the identified Critical Business terms.
- Support business stakeholders in data classification, identifying personal information processing within the data flows,
- Support business data stewards and SMEs in definition of business / data quality rules for identified Critical Business Terms, and the review of the data quality assessment results.
- Lead the development of a robust and scalable cross-functional data standards framework and promote data standards value throughout the organization.
- Ensure a consistent approach to implementation and governance of data standards by
- (a)collaborating with Data Design Review Board and Data Governance Council forums to gain approval for data standards and lead relevant DDRB Working Groups to establish data standards recommendations across key stakeholder groups.
- (b)working with Data Governance team for cataloguing of business terms, business definition, business rules and other key metadata in Collibra.
- (c)working with Controls team to facilitate compliance.
- (d)working with IT and Data Governance to assess and review the implementation of data standards.(e)working with all new system developments / systems feeding to GDW to ensure all Data Office ‘Minimum Data Requirements’ are adhered to.
- Ensure catalog of data standards is current with complete business and technical metadata (e.g. business terms, definitions at table and column level).
- Develop action plan/strategies for resolution of inconsistent/duplicate/incorrect data standards and work with Data owners/stewards to address via consolidation, standardization or deprecation.
- Operationalize the implementation of the Ingestion Strategy, and work with both 3rd parties and internal functions to ensure complete mapping of externally sourced data to AIG’s target data models for downstream consumption.
- Contribute to the roll out of the global data governance accountability framework that improves over time with a focus on data transparency, quality, and consistency and in alignment with policies and standards, metrics, processes, and data architecture.
What you’ll need to succeed
- Strong Experience in the commercial Insurance industry (8+ years) and familiarity with Insurance processes (Underwriting & Claims) and terminology
- Working knowledge of a variety of Insurance systems
- Previous experience with Data Governance, Master Data Management, Reference Data Management, Data Discovery/Lineage, Data Modeling, Data Architecture – preferably in a large P&C Insurance company or other complex Financial Services setting
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Data Analytics, Finance, Information Technology and/or Computer Science
- Has a strong understanding of principles, procedures, and skills in domain and a strong understanding of Data Management and Governance practices
- Technical proficiency in being able to understand disparate Underwriting and Claims data repositories; and be able to map to a common AIG template
- Knowledge of data-related government regulatory requirements and emerging trends
- Familiarity with Agile methodology is helpful
- Ability to gather, manipulate and identify useful information from data
- Ability to translate the business partner's business intelligence needs into business requirements/user stories for data engineers and business intelligence delivery developers.
- Ability to provide necessary support to enable architects, technical and business system analysts to formulate and implement technical solutions
- High level/advanced proficiency of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Visio)
- Knowledge of other software packages/platforms (e.g. SQL, Informatica, Qlik, Power BI, GIS etc.) preferred
- Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
- Must be willing to learn other business applications as needed to perform assigned duties effectively and efficiently
