We are seeking an exceptional Principal for our year-round operating Day School located in Elgin, IL.
Who We Are
Marklund is a nonprofit organization that provides residential, educational and therapy services to infants, children, teens and adults with serious and profound developmental disabilities and special healthcare needs. With three residential locations - the Marklund Hyde Center in Geneva, the Marklund Philip Center in Bloomingdale, and the Marklund Wasmond Center in Elgin, it is currently home to nearly 178 residents. The Marklund Day School offers Multi-Needs and Life Skills programs for children and young adults with multiple medical needs, and those diagnosed on the autism spectrum. In addition, our Community Day Services program at each site is a therapeutic day program for adults who reside at Marklund and those who come in from the community.

About Our School
Marklund Day School is a well-known and respected nonpublic school serving students ages Pre K-22 who come to our school’s program through partnerships with various Chicago suburban school districts. Marklund Day school provides an environment conducive to learning through specialized curriculum, positive behavioral interventions, and individualized student support. Our highly sensory-driven program features physical and occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, art and music therapy, Snoezelen therapy, computer adapted technology, community programs and opportunities, recreational therapy, aquatic therapy and more.
Position Overview
This position is a head leadership position of the Marklund Day School. The Principal will be considered management level within the Marklund Organization.
While performing the functions as outlined on the attached pages you will display a positive attitude when addressing students, families, visitors and co-workers to elevate the spirit of the whole group and create a harmonious environment.
Essential Job Functions
- Assures quality of program curriculum.
- Attend IEPs and 3-year re-evals.
- Conduct phone and legwork to recruit new students.
- Tour parents and new district representatives.
- Conduct All Staff In-services and Teacher meetings.
- Assist in overall smooth function of this facility, by working together with Therapy Supervisor, Registered Nurse, and Administrative Assistant.
- Responsible for establishing and maintaining compliance with all governmental regulations concerning education. Liaison between Day school and appropriate state officials.
- Develops budgets and educates staff to monitoring budgets.
- Communicates with school districts on status of students.
- Responsible for establishing yearly school calendar.
- Provide safe physical environment for all students, clients, and staff.
- Conduct progress reviews for all teachers including feedback from assistants/Therapy/Nursing.
- Conduct interviews for Teachers and Paraprofessionals

Required Experience:
- Type 10 TMH Certification
- Type 75 Administrative Certificate
- Master’s Degree in Education
- Experience in Special Education
- Prior supervisory experience a must
- Experience as Principal in either Public or Private sector is a plus
