Essential Duties and Responsibilities: To function at a professional nursing level using both administrative leadership and clinical expertise in order to assure that comprehensive care and treatment is rendered to resident population, collaborates with the interdisciplinary team in the design, implementation and evaluation of various programs within the unit. This employee has the responsibility for coordination of total resident care. The nursing unit manager performs responsibly supervisory and professional work in directing and coordinating the nursing unit. The individual must have advance training and broad nursing experience including supervisory duties. The work requires administrative ability, knowledge of training techniques, ability to adapt techniques and procedures in accordance with unusual situations, and the exercise of initiative and good judgement. The work is carried out according to standards of professional nursing practice, homes policies, rules and regulations, and state and federal standards. · Verifies daily staffing for unit daily · Collaborates with all floor nurses to exchange information regarding resident care, resident condition, and all matters affecting resident well-being (e.g., admissions, discharges, transfers, appointment etc.) makes recommendations regarding nursing process, and communications concerns to supervisor of other departments and the Director of Nursing. · Makes rounds, morning and night, to assess residents’ conditions, giving special attention to critically ill residents. · Ensures that the individual nursing care plan is followed for each resident. · Attends morning meeting daily. · Preforms medication passes and or direct resident care as needed. · Participates in resident care plan meetings · Reinforces the training and orientation of nursing personnel and provides positive reinforcement. · Answers any/all emergencies throughout the shift (e.g., change of resident condition, starting IV’s, pronouncement of death, on call schedule) · Assists in assuring a safe and sanitary environment for residents, employees and visitors. · Assures the work performance of nursing personnel as it relates to their job descriptions, unit standards of care, and goals of individuals. · Implements the process of progressive counseling and when necessary, recommends or initiates disciplinary action based on homes or nursing policies and procedures. · Encourages nursing staff to perform their jobs to the fullest of their potential. · Provides professional guidance and supervision to both professional staff and non-professional staff. · Conducts periodic meetings on their unit and among shifts with staff and other members of the interdisciplinary team to disseminate information; develop unit protocols; establish unit goals and initiate implementation; evaluates the effectiveness of these processes. · Participates in the development, implementation, and evaluation of quality assurance activities for the home and/or unit as requested. Participates in Quality Improvement reviews as defined by the Director of Nursing. · Identifies educational needs of the staff and plans with staff development coordinator a program to meet their needs. Evaluates and provides feedback to the staff development coordinator and to the individual staff member effectiveness of the program. · Make sure all the team players on the unit are working together. You are reasonable for doing all you unit players reviews and evaluations in a timely manner and returning them to HR. · Demonstrates, teaches and evaluates nursing skills utilized in direct resident care · Participates with the interdisciplinary team in developing, implementing and evaluating ways to achieve resident care goals. · Initiates resident centered team meetings with the staff using problem solving approach · Provides consultation in developing and implementing discharge plans in collaboration with the resident, family and interdisciplinary team. · Prepares written reports, reviews records and participates in needed data collection as indicated. · Participates in nursing committees as required. · Helps with activities on the unit (falls, admissions, discharges, etc.) · Attends meetings as requested. · Concerns his/herself with the safety of all center residents and families in order to minimize the potential for fire and accidents. Also, ensures that the center adheres to the legal, safety, health, fire and sanitation codes by being familiar with his/her role in carrying out the center’s fire, safety, and disaster plans and by being familiar with current MSDS · Participates in staff recruitment (i.e. Assist in the interviewing and selection of nursing personnel) · Perform other duties as assigned.
