Reports To: BUILDING ADMINISTRATION & HUMAN RESOURCES
Position Summary: The Substitute Teacher will assist students with learning subject
matter and skills that will contribute to their development as
mature, accountable and responsible students in the absence of the
classroom teacher.
- ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES
Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals
and, in harmony with the goals, establishes clear objectives for all lessons,
units, projects and to communicate these objectives to students, as adopted
by the local and state Board of Education
Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times
designated
Implements instructional activities that contribute to a climate where
students are actively engaged in meaningful learning experiences
Maintains as fully as possible the established routines and procedures of the
school and classroom to which assigned
Teaches lesson plan as outlined by the absent teacher
Identifies, selects, and modifies instructional resources to meet the needs of
the students with varying backgrounds, learning styles, and special needs
Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law,
district policy, and administrative regulation, pertaining to the teacher and
students
Models professional and ethical standards when dealing with students,
parents, peers, and community
SUBSTITUTE TEACHER
Establishes and maintains cooperative working relationships with students,
parents, and schools.
Assists students with resolving academic and social challenges.
Performs all extra duties for the absent teacher as required by building
administration
Makes provisions to be available to students and parents for education-
related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to
do so under reasonable terms
Remains at school during the entire school day unless excused by
administration or the designated representative
Maintains a professional appearance as an example for students
Performs other related duties as assigned by the building administration or
Human Resources
- PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES
Knowledge and appropriate use of District textual, curricular and
assessment materials.
Ability to work independently with minimal direct supervision
Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing
Knowledge of effective multi-tasking and organizational skills
Ability to utilize information/communication technology to enhance
instructional methodology.
Ability to diffuse and avoid non-productive conflict with parents, students,
staff and administration.
III. ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
The qualifications noted below are required/preferred to enable the employee
to perform the essential duties/responsibilities of this position.
Sixty college credit hours, Bachelor’s Degree preferred
MO Substitute Certification, teacher certification preferred
Mentoring or tutoring experience or equivalent in a diverse educational
environment
Pre-service student teaching or equivalent in a diverse educational
environment
Superior interpersonal skills required

Sufficient vision to read printed material, see distant objects with clarity, and
identify and distinguish objects
Ability to endure extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation.
Sufficient hearing to hear conversations in person and on the telephone, and
hear sounds clearly up to 20 feet
Ability to speak in an understandable voice with sufficient volume to be heard
in normal conversation and on the telephone, and in addressing groups
Ability to exert up to 20 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise
move objects
This position requires occasional or frequent, standing, walking, sitting,
bending, and reaching for extended periods of time
Sufficient manual dexterity and/or mobility to grasp and/or manipulate
objects, operate mechanical equipment, and move about the work area
This position will subject the employee to work environments that have
exposure to weather or interiors with extremes of heat and/or cold, wet and/or
humid conditions, high noise levels, and various work related hazards
- High school diploma
- Current Missouri Substitute Certification
- Previous teaching experience or equivalent in urban settings preferred.
- $125.00 per day
If hired as a Substitute for our district, you may not be eligible for unemployment compensation benefits drawn on school district wages during any scheduled school breaks including, but not limited to, summer, fall, winter, and spring breaks. You will receive a Letter of Assurance which is contingent upon continued school operations and will not apply in the event of any disruption that is beyond the control of the district (e.g., lack of school funding). The notice gives you reasonable assurance of continual placement on the Substitute Teacher List.
