About the Job
Concordia University Chicago (CUC) invites applications for the full-time faculty position in Music, located in River Forest, IL. This position is responsible for instructing a variety of music courses, including in the areas of music education, church music and applied organ. As a full-time member of the faculty, the candidate must be willing to engage in all aspects of university life, including teaching, service, and scholarship. The successful candidate must show a commitment to undergraduate student success, effective classroom teaching, support and growth of the department, and service to the university. Responsibilities/Duties:
- Teaches introductory, mid-level, and upper-level music courses, especially in the areas of music education and church music, and applied organ
- Serves as the organist to the Chapel of Our Lord
- Coordinates and directs the Bachelor of Music Education, Director of Parish Music, and the Master of Church Music programs
- Supports other Department and University functions through service, such as committee work
- Maintains an active scholarly agenda, including membership in at least one professional organization related to music and regular solo recitals
- Performs other scholarship to the University, which may include concert performances, publications in peer-reviewed journals, published musical compositions/arrangements, and presentations at professional conferences
- Candidates must support and be committed to the mission and identity of Concordia University Chicago, a university of the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod (LCMS)
Skill Sets:
- Strong administrative skills, including related computer and technology skills
- Superior verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills across institutional units with faculty, staff and senior leaders
- Enthusiastic supporter of Lutheran higher education and Concordia University Chicago
- A record of successful teaching, scholarship, and service at the program or university level
- The ability to challenge, motivate and encourage students to high levels of academic and personal success
Minimum Experience Required:
- Minimum of 5 years of teaching experience in public or private school settings
- Parish music with skills in service playing and ensemble directing
Education Requirements:
- An earned PhD or DMA in music; those nearing a terminal degree by the start date will be considered
- Current teaching license is required
- Undergraduate certification or colloquy completion as a professional church worker in the LCMS is preferred
