About the Job
Canal Barge Company Deckhands work on our fleet of Inland Towing Vessels. There is excellent opportunity for advancement, and extensive training is provided.
Qualified candidates must be safety-conscious and able to work in a physically demanding environment. The work schedule consists of 28 days on and 28 days off, with travel reimbursement.
Applicants must have favorable work references, and meet the required qualifications below.
Primary Job Duties
- Handle lines and wires
- Make and break tow
- Maintain barges in tow
- Daily vessel housekeeping
- Inspect equipment
- Chipping and painting vessel and tow
- Participate in safety drills and audits
- Perform other related duties as assigned or requested
Physical Requirements
Physical requirements of the job include:
- Climbing ladders and stairs
- Repetitive bending and stooping
- Lifting heavy marine equipment
- Lifting objects from various levels ranging from 10-100 pounds
- Able to board and ride in a skiff
Qualifications
- High school education or equivalent required
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license
- Must not have a DWI or DUI in the last three years
- Cannot have any criminal charges pending or be on probation
- Must be able to obtain a TWIC card prior to orientation
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical (including drug & alcohol screen) if an offer is made
