SUMMARY:
We are currently seeking a DEI Coach to join our DEI Coach team. This position is full-time with benefits. This role will primarily work hybrid (days per week is dependent on the need related to coaching, meetings and onsite events) Monday - Friday, day shift.
Purpose of this position: The Diversity Equity and Inclusion Coach will contribute to a more diverse, equitable, inclusive and anti-racist workforce and culture by serving as a knowledgeable, trusted, thought partner and collaborator for leaders and individual team members by helping employees progress along the change continuum of prioritizing health equity and DEI.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supports leaders in the implementation of equitable and inclusive practices by reviewing, advising, and collaborating about: the current department norms such as daily routines, communication, and inclusive social interactions which contribute to a trusting, inclusive and collaborative work environment
- Guides and equips leaders and team members with resources and appropriate next steps for addressing employee issues with microaggressions, harassment, retaliation or discrimination
- Providing a safe space for people to share experiences, challenges and questions and that’s conducive to learning new perspectives, improving understanding, appreciation and respect for different cultural norms and lived experiences
- Capacity building and advising on how to identify and eliminate barriers to engagement, development, advancement and retention of a diverse workforce by adopting more equitable and inclusive approaches and practices
- Creating safe and affirming spaces for employees of Color and other historically marginalized employees to receive the necessary support for navigating difficult situations and dynamics and equipping them with tools and resources that will remove artificial barriers to reaching their full potential professionally and contributing to personal well-being
- Exhibits a growth mindset through participation in high quality professional relationships; recognize that relationships are key in supporting growth and change
- Provide opportunities for shared learning experiences through observations, insights, data collection, and team member feedback
- Model evidence-based practice and coach others how to utilize a variety of strategies to increase engagement, development and retention
- Engaging in ongoing professional development to ensure adherence to evidence-based and research-based practices in relation to trauma-informed practices, human growth and development, and restorative practices
- Coordinate with DEI clinicians, Health Equity Educator and Cultural Navigators as needed
- Advocating on behalf of diverse employees to ensure their experiences, questions and concerns are known, supported and addressed by the appropriate person while providing support and resources to reduce mental and emotional distress
- Provide coaching, strategies and resources necessary to:
- Design and implement influence successful department-level and individual outcomes
- Integrate behavioral learning practices
- Design and implement influence successful department-level and individual outcomes
- Offer insight on behavior support strategies
- Embrace and coach on DEI principles and strategies that lead to meaningful growth
- Provides guidance and insights that contribute to new mindsets and behaviors needed in an anti-racist healthcare institution
- Contribute insights and support of employee relations investigations as needed
- Actively participates in health equity trainings, meetings and conferences to continually deepen knowledge and skillset
- Aligns coaching and strategic plans to advance the mission and goals of the Health Equity Department and Hennepin Healthcare
- These duties are not all inclusive, and the expectation is for any other duties to be performed as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree
- At least 2 years of experience with coaching and mentoring colleagues and other professionals

- An approved equivalent combination of education and experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in DEI training facilitation
- Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI) Qualified Administrator
- Knowledge in restorative justice practices
- Restorative Justice Practices Certification
Knowledge/ Skills/ Abilities:
- Experience in team building
- Experience in conflict resolution
- Comfortable with de-escalation
- High emotional intelligence
- Able to navigate virtual platforms such as Microsoft Teams, Zoom
- Well versed in using software to aid the development and conducting of coachings such as Microsoft Power Point, Word, or others
- Ability to develop tools and resources to improve outcomes
- Models valuing diversity and supporting communication and learning styles of each team member
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal relationship building skills
- Equipped to meet resistance with knowledge, data and resources
- Deep knowledge of DEI and health equity
- Experience training on DEI or health equity
- Proven experience in building productive and influential relationships
