Position Summary: The Deli-Bakery Manager oversees all aspects of the deli and bakery department, ensuring efficient operations and the highest standards of product quality and customer service. This role involves managing inventory, pricing, merchandising, and labor while adhering to safety regulations. The Deli/Bakery Manager will plan and order products and supplies, schedule staff, and strategize to maximize sales and gross profit. Additionally, this role is responsible for training new associates, supervising daily operations, and ensuring proper procedures for ordering, receiving, unloading, storing, and rotating merchandise. The Deli-Bakery Manager will also handle various store tasks and maintain adherence to safety standards throughout the department.
Key Responsibilities: (Responsibilities may vary depending on assignment.)
· Provide outstanding customer service.
· Ensures all areas of cost control are monitored continuously.
· Supervises, trains, and develops all associates in the department in accordance with established company policy.
· Orders supplies and products for the department. Ensure supplies are kept in an orderly fashion to ensure adequate supply and proper inventory level.
· Ensures that all local, state, and federal laws on sanitation and safety are complied with. Ensures strict standards are set for associates on daily cleanliness, for person, preparation room, display cases, and equipment.
· Completes weekly schedules while staying within operating budgets.
· Ensure invoices are coded properly and adjustments are recorded correctly.
· Maintains cases and display areas daily to provide an attractive setting that will appeal to customers.
· Maintains a variety and freshness of all products.
· Cuts deli meats and cheeses to customer expectations.
· Ensure that proper documentation is administered for disciplinary actions.
· Ensures that all associates are following company policies and procedures.
· Answers phones and takes phone orders correctly.
· Assist customers at both bakery and deli service counters.
· Keep counters, glass, cases, and work areas clean and neat.
· Maintains excellent personal hygiene habits.
· Stocks sales floor area, deli & bakery cases, and supply areas.
· Follows all safety and security procedures.
· Operate small kitchen appliances, ovens, proofers, warmers, and fryers.
· Takes out trash and disposes of cardboard.
· Performs daily cleaning duties such as sweeping and mopping.
· Opens and closes department without supervision.
· May assist on front-end with cashier and carryout duties as needed.
· Any other responsibilities as assigned by manager.
Work Environment:
- May be exposed to all weather conditions (hot, cold, rain, snow, ice and wind) as well as, inside work with variations in heat, cold, dust, and humidity.
- Must be able to work around ovens and cooking areas as well as in freezers and walk-in coolers.
- Fast paced retail environment with work primarily in deli/bakery kitchen.
Supervisory/Managerial Responsibility
· 10-20 associates. Close supervision of duties along with recruitment, mentoring, evaluation of performance, providing feedback, and terminations.
Physical Requirements:
- Frequently moves, lifts, and carries merchandise and supplies weighing less than or equal to 30 pounds without assistance. Occassioanlly moves, lifts, and carries merchandise and supplies weighing less than or equal to 60 pounds.
- Occasionally reaches overhead and below the knees, including pushing, pulling, squatting, kneeling, bending, stooping, crouching, and twisting with or without bearing weight. Occasionally required to climb and/or crawl.
- Stands or walks continuously throughout the shift.
Qualifications & Other Job Requirements:
· Previous experience in a retail or grocery environment required. Experience in food service or management a plus.
· Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
· Minimum age requirement = 18 years old.
